Vivitek H1080FD Projector Review

The Vivitek H1080FD projector is one of the company’s latest home theater projectors. This model features 1800 ANSI lumens, a 5000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, the writers from Trusted Reviews got their hands on the H1080FD projector to write their review of this model. The first thing that the writers noticed was the amazing price difference between this projector and another recently released home theater projector, the H9080FD. The H9080FD retails for around $11000, while the H1080FD is only priced at £849 ($1360). This price range gap got the writers to wonder what makes these two projectors so different. Well for starters the chassis for the H1080FD doesn’t look nearly as classy as its counterpart and has a plasticy feel that most high-end users usually stay away from. The writers were very happy to see that the H1080FD come with so many connection options including dual HDMI ports, RGB, composite, component, and an s-video port. After a quick setup the writers did note that they liked the colors and contrast of the image. What they didn’t like were some of the preset features like the normal and bright modes. Fortunately though, the projector does offer three user modes for customized settings to be saved. One of the biggest problems that the writers had with the H1080FD was the dreaded rainbow effect. This effect is typical with DLP projectors but the effect was bad enough to highlight in the review. The effect was noticeable fairly often and even over very bright parts of the image. The final verdict that the writers made was, ‘Although there are clear signs of the H1080FD’s budget nature in its build quality and some aspects of its performance, it still does plenty well enough to warrant at least an audition if you’re in the market for a startlingly cheap ‘part-time’ projector.’
