DreamVision Dream’E Projector Review

dreame_a2

The DreamVision Dream’E projector is one of the company’s latest home theater models. It features 1200 ANSI lumens, a 15000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, a writer from Electronic House got the opportunity to review the Dream’E projector. The writer seemed very content with the quick and easy setup. The projector was able to be adjusted easily and only required some minor tweaking in order to get the desired display. The projector was more than capable of displaying colors and it was apparent in the movie and sports tests that the writer used. The black levels were also a big plus and could be seen when looking at the Bruins’ uniforms. The writer was so happy about the Dream’E that they didn’t feel the need to list any major complaints about it. Their final thought was, ‘Its performance was so good, in fact, that my wife and kids wouldn’t allow it to leave the house. My family sees a lot of products enter the house and the Dream’E was the first one to elicit this type of response. I ended up buying the projector and, with its built-in upgrade path, I look forward to stepping up into its anamorphic options someday.’

Microvision Releases SHOW WX Projector

wx_a1

Microvision has been teasing the projector industry for months about their SHOW WX pico projector. Today, the company has finally announced that this miniature device is finally available. This projector is one of the first models to features laser display technology and it is capable of displaying 10 ANSI lumens, a WVGA (848 x 480) resolution, and an impressive 5000:1 contrast ratio. The laser display technology uses three different lasers; one red, one green, and one blue. By combining the lasers through the display panel the projector is able to produce a more vibrant and clear picture than the conventional LED lamp system. The best feature about the laser display technology is that it never needs focusing, which means you can display the picture on any wall, ceiling, or floor and always have the same amazing picture. Also because the display technology is smaller than LED systems, the projector is only half an inch thick and can fit anywhere a cell phone can. Microvision is retailing the SHOW WX projector for $499.

Sanyo Announces LP-XM100 and LP-XM150 Projectors

LP-XM100_a1

Sanyo is proud to announce today two new projectors that are designed for high-brightness and high-performance. The LP-XM150 and LP-XM100 both features 3LCD display technology, XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. The only difference is that the XM150 can display 6000 ANSI lumens, while the XM100 only displays 5000 ANSI lumens. Both projectors are fitted with a brand new optical engine and a new cooling technology that allows the projectors to produce 20% more light than any other Sanyo projector. The optical system is equipped with an inorganic liquid crystal panel for a longer lifespan and for higher reliability. Both projectors are fitted with a diverse connection panel including, DVI, 5BNC, RGB, composite, component, s-video, and several audio ports. There is also a LAN connection for network capabilities. Sanyo plans to release the XM150 is November and the XM100 in December. Unfortunately these projectors are only intended for Japan right now, but a worldwide release is probably not too far behind.

Vivitek H1080FD Projector Review

H1080FD_a2

The Vivitek H1080FD projector is one of the company’s latest home theater projectors. This model features 1800 ANSI lumens, a 5000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, the writers from Trusted Reviews got their hands on the H1080FD projector to write their review of this model. The first thing that the writers noticed was the amazing price difference between this projector and another recently released home theater projector, the H9080FD. The H9080FD retails for around $11000, while the H1080FD is only priced at £849 ($1360). This price range gap got the writers to wonder what makes these two projectors so different. Well for starters the chassis for the H1080FD doesn’t look nearly as classy as its counterpart and has a plasticy feel that most high-end users usually stay away from. The writers were very happy to see that the H1080FD come with so many connection options including dual HDMI ports, RGB, composite, component, and an s-video port. After a quick setup the writers did note that they liked the colors and contrast of the image. What they didn’t like were some of the preset features like the normal and bright modes. Fortunately though, the projector does offer three user modes for customized settings to be saved. One of the biggest problems that the writers had with the H1080FD was the dreaded rainbow effect. This effect is typical with DLP projectors but the effect was bad enough to highlight in the review. The effect was noticeable fairly often and even over very bright parts of the image. The final verdict that the writers made was, ‘Although there are clear signs of the H1080FD’s budget nature in its build quality and some aspects of its performance, it still does plenty well enough to warrant at least an audition if you’re in the market for a startlingly cheap ‘part-time’ projector.’

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 6500 UB Projector Review

plhc6500ub_a1

The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 6500 UB projector is one of the company’s best home theater models. This projector features 1600 ANSI lumens, a 75000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Today, Crunch Gear released their review of the projector after a few weeks of enjoying what it has to offer. The writers were amazed with the quality and power the 6500 UB has to offer. They also enjoyed the dual HDMI ports, composite, component, s-video, and VGA inputs that came with the connection panel. The writer thought that yes this is by far an incredibly powerful home theater projector, but they also thought that maybe it was too much. They first started by stating that the projector was too big and had difficulty finding a proper place for the projector during the review. They also thought that the 1600 ANSI lumen brightness was probably intended for larger home theater and was really suitable for smaller theaters. Another thing that the writer complained about was that there was no internal speaker system. This means that if you want to listen to audio then you will need to buy a separate speaker system. But Epson designed this projector for high-end home theater, which means their usually already is an audio system in place. The bottom line that the writer made was, ‘Overall, however, I’m totally down with a $3,000 1080p projector, especially with HDMI in. It’s cheap enough to look into as a TV replacement and it’s sharp enough to warrant a long look.’

All of these projectors feature the latest in DLP display technology and can be used for either home theater or business purposes.

The first two are the MP626 and MP670 projectors. Both models feature XGA (1024 x 768) resolution and a 3000:1 contrast ratio the only difference is that the MP626 comes with 2500 ANSI lumens while the MP670 can display 3000 ANSI lumens. Both projectors come with dual RGB ports as well as a HDMI, composite, and a s-video connection.

The next two are the MP776 and MP777 projector. Both of these models share the XGA (1024 x 768) resolution as the previously mentioned projectors. They also come with a 2600:1 contrast ratio and the MP776 has 3500 ANSI lumens while the MP777 has 4000 ANSI lumens. These projectors are more than capable of displaying in brightly lit rooms. These models also have the added bonus of an Ethernet LAN connection for network capabilities.

Last but not least are two short throw models, the MP772 ST and MP776 ST. These models share a XGA (1024 x 768) resolution and a 2400:1 contrast ratio. But the MP772 has only 2500 ANSI lumens, while the MP776 has 3500 lumens. The short throw lenses on these projectors allow them to produce large screens from half the throw distance of a standard projector lens.

Optoma Pro250X

Optoma Pro250X

There was a time when projector manufacturers built two different types of video projectors for two different markets: They designed projectors with computer resolutions for boardrooms and classrooms, and projectors with TV resolutions for home theaters. The line between those two markets seems to be disappearing. Witness Optoma’s Pro250X video projector, whose data sheet describes a combination boardroom/classroom product, sporting a native resolution of 1024x768 (versus TV resolutions of 1920x1080 or 1280x720); square-ish 4:3 native aspect ratio (instead of widescreen 16:9); and analog VGA video inputs (as opposed to digital HDMI). In fact, Optoma’s own press release labels it a ‘data-grade portable projector.’ And yet they’re selling the Pro250X through general retail channels as a consumer projector with a $649 list price. Is this a bargain or a bum steer?

Epson EH-TW5500 Projector Review

EH-TW5500_a1

The Epson EH-TW5500 is not even released yet, but it is already gaining in popularity. This model features 1600 ANSI lumens, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and a 200000:1 contrast ratio. Recently, a writer from Trusted Reviews got the opportunity to test the TW5500 before it hits shelves in November. The writers were impressed right from the start with the matt black body that doesn’t reflect any light, which helps prevent distractions. The connection panel was very easy to read and allowed for a quick and simple setup. The writers also enjoyed all the features and specs that the projector lived up to. However their favorite specification was the 200000:1 contrast ratio. No other projector has claimed to have a contrast this high before, which gives doubt that it can actually perform that well. However, Epson integrated into this projector a new dual-layer, notched iris, which allows the projector to deliver pronounced shifts in image brightness. One of the problems that Epson fixed with this projector was the motion sensing and judder problems. In rapidly fast movement scenes, predecessors would typically have these problems and not be able to keep up with the display. However, the TW5500 is perfectly able to keep up and display clear crisp images in even the most difficult movement scenes. The final verdict that the writer made was,’ With so many projectors vying for your attention in the coming months, it’s inevitable that there will be winners and losers along the way. But by pretty much rewriting the LCD projection rule book for the second time in three months, it’s hard to imagine Epson ending up anywhere near the losers camp with the EH-TW5500. Especially since its arrival slightly ahead of its rivals has set the bar so dizzyingly high.’

Runco Announces New LightStyle Series

LS-7_a1

Runco is a market leader in state-of-the-art projection system, flat-panel plasma monitors, video processors, and other components for customer consumer market. Today, the company has announced three new projectors that will form their latest LightStyle series, the LS-3, LS-5, and LS-7. All of these projectors share the same round design as well as DLP display technology. They also share the same connection panel, which includes dual HDMI ports, a component, s-video, RGB, and a composite connection. Because these projectors are designed for high-end home theaters, there are no speaker or audio connections. Runco expects these projectors to release in November.

The LS-3 is the first and smallest of the projectors. This model comes with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 1000 ANSI lumens and a 10000:1 contrast ratio. Runco has also fitted this model with an extra long lasting lamp that has a 4000 hour lamp life. This projector will retail for just under $5000.

Next is the LS-5, which is a little better, featuring 1000 ANSI lumens, a 15000:1 contrast ratio, and the same HD (1920 x 1080) resolution as the LS-3. The bigger contrast ratio allows the projector display even more detail and darker black levels. The LS-5 is set to retail for $6995.

Lastly is the LS-7, which comes with a lesser HD (1280 x 720) resolution, but also 2000 ANSI lumens, and a 10000:1 contrast ratio. The added brightness allows this projector to shine even in moderately lit room. This allows the users to either enjoy the movie or do something else while they watch. The LS-7 is unfortunately the most expensive from the three, retailing for $15495.

Optoma HD20 First Sub-$1000 1080p HD Projector

A couple years ago, after months of research, we splurged and purchased a peach of a deal: a DLP HD projector. It changed our home movie viewing experience a thousand fold (and it was a crazy good deal, with holiday discounts bringing the price around $700 with the inclusion of a 92' screen). But with the progression to 1080p content, we've always dreamt of upgrading to a full HD system, something that was but a dream until the release of the Optoma HD20...

Epson EH-DM2 Projector Review

eh-dm2_a2

The Epson EH-DM2 is one of the many projectors Epson provides with a built-in DVD player. This projector also features WVGA (858 x 480) resolution, 1200 ANSI lumens, and a 300:1 contrast ratio. Recently, the writers from PC World got the opportunity to test this projector. When they took the projector from the box, the first thing they noticed was that the projector had no digital inputs. The projector only had RGB, composite, s-video, component, and a USB port for videos and photos. Their were no HDMI or DVI ports for any high quality content. The writers did like being able to watch their favorite DVDs with out having to connect an external player. Also the fact that the DM2 weighs only 8.4 lbs, gives the projector portability that is hard to get. Another major concern that the writers found however was that the resolution was the minimum requirement for standard DVD quality. If you are one of those people who want the best quality possible then you might want to look at other projectors. However even with the standard specs, the writers were overly impressed with the DM2, their final comment was, ‘If you’re looking for an all-in-one system that does away with the need to fiddle with cables, have a look at the EH-DM2 from Epson.’

The Epson EH-TW3000 is one of the company’s popular home theater projectors. This model features 2000 ANSI lumens, a 20000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, the writers from Good Gear Guide got their hands on the TW3000 in order to see if it was as good as Epson claimed. One of the first things that the writers noticed was the diverse connection selection. The TW3000 comes with ports for every occasion, including dual HDMI ports, a composite, component, s-video, and even an RGB port for computers. The writers were also impressed with the quality of the images displayed. They mentioned that the quality was as good in real life as it was advertised on paper with consistent sharpness, and image detail. The only concern was during the projector’s high mode, the fan noise was loud enough to be noticed. However, the writers we not distracted by the sound. In the end, they stated, ‘There are no areas where the Epson EH-TW3000 struggles. It is a capable all-round home theater projector for a good price, so if you are considering a more expensive model, check out Epson’s offering as well.’

Merlin Digital is proud to announce that they are releasing their second generation of pico projectors. This new model, called the Pocket Projector V2 is about the size of a TV remote control and weighs only 100 grams (0.2 lbs). Unfortunately, the company has not released any information about the resolution or the contrast, but they did state that the V2 has ‘Exceptionally High Brightness.’ The model comes with several good features like an internal battery and 2GB hard drive. There is also an SD card slot for an additional 64GBs of additional space. The V2 even has an AV jack and mini USB connection in order to connect to DVD players, digital cameras, and game consoles. The projector is powered by an LED lamp system, which is expected to last for between 10000 and 15000 hours. Merlin Digital is currently selling the V2 through their website for the retail price of $475, which seems a bit high compared to some of the other pico projectors on the market.

The InFocus Play Big X10 projector is one of the company’s high end home theater projectors. This model features 1200 ANSI lumens, a 2500:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, Good Gear Guide released their review of this projector. The design of the projector is fairly smooth, the black finish, curved design and included stand gives the projector a sense of class. However, during the setup, the writers noticed that the X10 does come with a long range lens, which means that it is not intended for small rooms. If you do use the projector in small rooms however it means that you will have a fairly small screen. Both the contrast and brightness of the projector were highlights that the writers liked. They also liked the connection panel and its array of connection options. The final comment that the writer said was, ‘Frankly, we’re surprised that the InFocus X10 home theater projector is only $3500. The image it produces will flatter any high-definition content and the fact that it is so moderately priced further serves to heighten its appeal.’

Epson's PowerLite 705HD Projector Clocks 720p For Under $750 [Projectors]

Today Epson announced two new projectors aimed squarely at budget conscious consumers—the PowerLite Home Cinema 705HD and the MovieMate 60.

If you can stand the drop from 1080p, the PowerLite 705HD still brings something to the table when compared to their 8100 model. Most notably, it's less than half the price. The 705HD is 3LCD-based, it delivers 2,500 lumens brightness, 3000:1 contrast and Component Video, S-Video, HDMI, and USB connectivity.

Epson also released the MovieMate 60—an all-in-one unit with a built-in DVD and speaker system. Of course, it seems pretty absurd to spending $700 on a 540p combo device with DVD given that much more future-proof technology exists at that price point. That having been said, keep in mind that 1080p projectors are starting to drop below the $1000 mark. If you are willing to spend a little extra money or put off the purchase for another year, you stand to get a lot more bang for your buck. Both of the projectors featured here will be available in October.

There is also a USB control port so that users can control the projector through their PC or laptop. Acer is currently releasing the X1161 and X1261 in India, but they are already available in the USA.

Microvision Announces SHOW WX Projector Coming Soon

wx_a1

Microvision is a global leader in innovative ultra-miniature projection display and image capture products for mobility applications. Today, the company has announced the commercial introduction of their SHOW WX pico projector. This project was the first to demonstrate laser display technology and feature 10 ANSI lumens, a 5000:1 contrast ratio, and WVGA (848 x 480) resolution. The laser display system is the future of pico projectors because it combines the light from a red, blue, and green laser and combines them into one vivid and colorful display. The key advantage to this display system is that the projector never needs focusing. Other systems require a focus knob and constant adjusting when the projector moves. The SHOW WX does not have these problems and is always in focus no matter what wall, ceiling, or surface that you display on. Microvision has also announced that the SHOW WX will officially release in a matter of weeks, but the retail price was not announced. Based on past reports, expect this projector to retail somewhere around $500.

Sim2 Multimedia Releases Grand Cinema C3X LUMIS Projector

C3XLUMIS_a1

Sim2 Multimedia was one of the many presenters this year at the CEDIA Expo. This year, the company demonstrated their newest projector, the Grand Cinema C3X LUMIS. This projector is not to be confused with the C3X LUMIS HOST, which released several months ago. The C3X LUMIS features high quality display by showing full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 3000 ANSI lumens, and a 35000:1 contrast ratio. The major difference between this model and the LUMIS HOST is that this projector doesn’t require the external video processor. All of the connections are included on the projector, which include dual HDMI ports, composite, s-video, RGB, and a component port. There are also three trigger ports, an RS-232C, and an Ethernet port for instant control. There are also three optical fiber ports if you want to connect this projector to a media center and control the projector through that. Sim2 has released the C3X LUMIS and is currently available through certified retailers.

Sanwa Releases 400-PJ001 Projector

400-PRJ001_a1

Sanwa is one of the newest Japanese manufacturers to introduce a pico projector. Their model, the 400-PJ001 is specifically designed for laptops and personal computers. This device features 10 ANSI lumens, a 100:1 contrast ratio, and VGA (640 x 480) resolution. The more interesting part about this projector is its connection panel. The PJ001 only has a single mini USB port and comes with a cable that has dual USB connections on the one end. In order for the projector to run and display content both USB connections must be connected; one for power and one for transferring video content. Unfortunately that means that this projector can not be used with a DVD player or game system, but it would work wonderfully for traveling presenters. The PJ001 is only available in Japan and retails for 19999 yen ($219).

Optoma revises its pico projector – meet the PK102

Optoma revises its pico projector – meet the PK102

mpro1The first generation of pico projectors sort of landed with a thud; their lackluster performance and poor battery life, combined with a relatively high price, have pretty much relegated them to ‘experimental’ status. The major releases were Optoma’s PK101, 3M’s MPro 110, Dell’s whatever-it-was. Recently 3M has updated their pico to the MPro 120, which you’ll see a review for shortly, and now Optoma has improved their offering and iterated its version number as well. We’re waiting on you, Dell!

mpro2The new PK102 has some serious improvements. The contrast ratio has been doubled, for one thing, to 2000:1. Wery nice. But the big move is that it now has 4GB of on-board memory and a on-screen menu with which to navigate it. That’s certainly big enough for a couple episodes of this or that, or a few home movies. This solves the problem of having to carry around something to output through the projector, which reduced its utility somewhat. That gives it a definite edge over the MPro 120, but I’d have to see them side by side to see if the image on one is better.

The price is also much lower, at $250 (the MPro is $350). Do we have a winner? On paper (or rather, on screen), it appears so.

LED Kroma projector looking good

Have plenty of cash to spare? You might be interested to check out the LED-based Kroma projector then, where it comes with a single chip inside, being a 1080p DLP projector that relies on ReaLED technology. This special technology makes mother nature smile as well since it sips less juice compared to other projectors in its class, making the Kroma Projector last up to an astounding 100,000 hours thereabouts. Since there isn't any bulb within, you also reduce the chances of getting poisoned by hazardous materials of sorts during use and after disposal. Features of the Kroma include HDMI, DVI, component video and RGB connectivity, RS-232 and IR control ports. It has a rated light output of 600 lumens and you can play around with seven different lenses - all optional, of course. Remember we said earlier that you can only get this if you're feeling flush? That's cause it will retail for approximately $35,000.

Samsung Releases A600B Projector

A600_a1

Samsung is a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media, and digital convergence technologies. Today the company has announced the release of their latest home theater projector, the A600B, or A600 for short. This projector has the same high quality as the A800 and A900 from the ‘Joe Kane Signature Series’ projectors. The A600 features full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 1000 ANSI lumens, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. One of the highlights about this projector is its diverse connection panel, which includes dual HDMI ports, composite, component, s-video and a RGB port for good measure. ‘For people interested in creating a home theater experience, but stopped short due to the costs, the A600 is a great alternative to the entry-level projectors that lack the Full HD quality,’ said Tom Grau, senior product marketing manager, projectors, Information Technology Division, Samsung Electronics America Inc. ‘We have incorporated the technology of our higher end models into the A600 to bring the movie-like viewing experience within reach of more people.’ The A600B is already available through the Samsung website and retails for the estimated retail price of $1795.

Christie Releases Five New M Series Projectors

WX7K-M_a1

Christie is a leader in visual solution for world-class organizations, offering diverse application for business, entertainment and industry. Today, the company announced the launch of five new projectors that are expected to further enhance the award-wining M Series of 3-chip DLP projectors. All of these projectors feature the same chassis and are designed for large venues like conventions, lecture halls, concerts, and more. The only real aspect that they all have in common is their 10000:1 contrast ratio.

First is the WX7K-M projector. This model features 5700 ANSI lumens and a WXGA (1366 x 768) resolution. It is the projector with the least brightness, but still runs on a dual lamp system. Users can change settings to either run both lamps at the same time or to run them individually. The good part about running them separate is that you double the total lamp life.

Next is the WX10K-M projector, which features 9500 ANSI lumens, and a WXGA (1366 x 768) resolution. This projector comes with dual DVI ports and has the option of adding or changing the connection panel by adding or removing select connection boards. Some of the option boards include dual, HDMI, analog, and a video decoder. There is also a wide variety of control options like RS-232, Ethernet, USB, GPIO, and a built-in keypad.

Continuing on the list, there is the WU7K-M. This projector is the first on the list to feature WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution along with 6300 ANSI lumens. The extra wide resolution allows for some of the best images to be shown. In addition to the connection options that the WX10K-M has, this projector also comes with a 5BNC port.

Another projector with WUXGA resolution is the WU12K-M, which also features 10500 ANSI lumens. The brightness for this model makes it one of the brightest projectors on the list. The projector is designed for flexibility and has been given a brand new set of lenses to play connect with. Christie has also fitted this projector with both vertical and horizontal lens shifts for easy adjustment.

Last but not least is the only Roadster in this lineup, the Roadster WU12K-M. This model is almost identical to the WU12K-M projector, featuring WUXGA (1920 x 1080) resolution and 10500 ANSI lumens. The major difference however is the included stack frame that allows the projector to be stacking with other projectors or mounted easily to places where normal mounts can’t be.

JVC unveils D-ILA home theater projectors

We already talked a bit about the massive 110-pound JVC pro projector with 4K resolution yesterday. If that projector was more than your budget and space could handle, JVC also has other projectors. JVC has debuted six more projectors at CEDIA that are somewhat more affordable.

jvcrs35

The other projectors include DLA-RS35, DLA-RS25, and DLA-RS15 that will be marketed and sold by JVC’s professional group and the DLA-HD990, DLA-HD950, and DLA-HD550 will be sold directly to consumers. All six projectors use JVC’s new 120Hz Clear Motion Drive technology to reduce blurring.

The projectors all use a new JVC designed 0.7-inch full HD D-ILA device and the wire-grid optical engine. The DLA-RS35 and HD990 projectors have 70,000:1 contrast ratios. The HD550 has a 30,000:1 ratio the RS15 has 32,000:1 and the RS25 and HD950 sport a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. All six projectors support 1080p resolution. Pricing for the line ranges from $5,000 to $10,000 and delivery will begin sometime this month.
