Today, Stuff published their review of this projector. The biggest feature about the H9080FD is that it is one of the first LED home theater projectors. The writer highlighted the technology and stated that the system is able to create a much better contrast, better colors, and an overall outstanding image quality. The only major concerns that the writer found was that the projector is rather big, which will make it difficult for small rooms, and the projector needs calibration after setup. Today, a writer from Home Cinema Choice got the opportunity to review this projector. One of the first things the writer notices is the projector’s size. This projector will not be easy to hide. However the size seems to play an important role to help control the heat and noise management. The overall image quality is amazing, but the problem is that the picture is just not bright enough. While typical projectors can beam out several thousand lumens, the Q-750d can only manage 800 lumens. But this can be a good thing for those who really like dark rooms while they watch their movies. The final comment the writer made was, ‘Overall, I’d rate the Q-750d as darn impressive. The form factor will obviously limit its appeal outside of the custom install market, and it does need a totally blacked-out space to work, but it does bode well for the future development of LED projectors.’

AAXA Technologies Releases M1 and M1 Plus Projectors

AAXA Technologies is proud to announce that two new projectors are hitting the consumer market soon. The M1 and M1 Plus are almost identical and feature 66 ANSI lumens, a SVGA (800 x 600) resolution, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. The major difference between the two is that the M1 only comes with a composite connection, while the M1 Plus has a composite and a VGA connection. In addition, both projectors also come with a headphone jack and an SD Card reader slot. The projectors teeter between being called a true pico projector or the larger pocket projectors. They both weigh just shy of a pound, but measure 4.4’ x 4.1’ x 1.8’ (W x H x D). AAXA is now accepting pre-orders for both projectors. The M1 will be released on December 21st, while the M1 Plus will be released January 21st. Their respective prices will be $299 and $359.

Barco is a globally recognized company that designs and develops visualization products for a variety of selected professional markets. Today, the company announced the release of their latest large venue projector, the RLM-W6. This projector can display 6000 ANSI lumens with a 2000:1 contrast ratio and WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution. Barco is excited about this model because they are claiming that the RLM-W6 is the world’s first 3-chip DLP projector that features WUXGA resolution and it will retail for the same price as a normal single-chip DLP projector. However, because Barco doesn’t release any price information, it’s difficult to accept or deny that claim. The RLM-W6 is designed for large venues but can also be used for boardrooms, lobbies and even auditoriums. ‘We like to refer to our RLM-W6 as a ‘three for one’-system,’ comments Carl Rijsbrack, Director Product and Solutions Management at Barco, ‘For the price of a single-chip DLP™ system, you get a three-chip DLP™ projector with a better image quality and a very low noise level. This makes it a strong contender for meeting rooms, where you don’t want to be interrupted by the drone of AV equipment, but its color quality also lets the RLM-W6 shine in environments such as lobbies or halls, where corporate branding has to be perfect.’ The projector is now available, but the retail price has not been released.

Epson is happy to announce a new high end projector that is being released into the UK, the EB-1925W. This projector features 4000 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. This model is ideal for classrooms and boardrooms and is bright enough to be used in almost any room condition. The extra wide resolution also is also good for modern laptops, which have been using the same resolution. The projector also comes with a wide array of screen adjustment features like horizontal and vertical keystone correction and vertical and horizontal lens shifts. The connection panel is equally diverse with dual RGB ports, a composite, s-video, HDMI, and a USB port. There is also wireless connectivity via a Wi-Fi connection. Epson has not yet announced the retail price, but it is available in the UK through certified retailers.

A few months ago, ViewSonic released their PJD2121 projector. This model features 400 ANSI lumens, an 1800:1 contrast ratio, and SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. Recently, the writers from Crunch Gear had the opportunity to review this small projector. One of the first things they notice is that this projector is designed for business use. The PJD2121 is light, portable, doesn’t come with any HD features, and is simple enough for a laptop or DVD player. The writers found that the display was clear and crisp. However, in order to see all the detail they had to keep the lights relatively low. They also liked the short throw lens, which allows a user to project a big display when they are close to the screen. One of the major drawback about the PJD2121 is that it doesn’t have internal speakers. This means that if the user has any audio they wish to play, they have to bring their own. Another problem is that the writers found the fan noise to be very distracting. The writers concluded by stating, ‘The Viewsonic PJD2121 is a great little projector for $419. The bright colors make it great for watching movies, playing games, or showing that spreadsheet to a client. The projector itself is warrantied for a period of three years, but you should expect to replace the lamp after roughly 2000 hours. A replacement lamp has an MSRP of $456, however a quick search shows that you’ll be able to pick one up for about $150.’

A few months ago, Mitsubishi announced their latest home theater projector, the HC3800. Recently, the company announced that this projector is now available in Australia. The HC3800 features 1300 ANSI lumens, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. The projector also has a diverse connection panel, which includes a RGB, composite, s-video, component and a HDMI port. The noise level is only 25 dB, which should be low enough to prevent distractions. Another feature is the inclusion of an extra long lasting lamp that can run for up to 5000 hours. Mitsubishi has even included several screen adjustment features like keystone correction in order to add versatility to the projector. One of the latest home theater projectors to come from BenQ is the W600. This model features 2600 ANSI lumens, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and HD (1280 x 720) resolution. Recently, a writer from Trusted Reviews got to review this projector. The writer compared the projector to another BenQ model that he reviewed earlier, the W1000. This model only features 2000 ANSI lumens, but has a better HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and the same 3000:1 contrast ratio. Both projectors also share the same appealing connection panel that includes dual HDMI ports, a composite, mini USB, component, s-video, and RGB. One thing that the writers were put off on was the lack of screen adjustment features. Usually budget projectors try to be flexible and offer features like vertical and horizontal lens shift, keystone adjustment, and several others. The W600 doesn’t have any of these features. However, the writer did find out that for what the projector lacked, it made up for in other features like picture quality settings, the writers were able to tinker with the image, which is something they normally don’t get to do with budget projectors. The major problem that the writers faced was the DLP rainbow effect. This effect happens when the colors start to separate and display what looks like a rainbow. While some people can’t see the effects, many people are sensitive enough to see them. The final verdict that the writer made was, ‘When it’s at its best, the W600’s pictures, while low on subtlety, can actually look quite spectacular. The Favela level on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the daytime battle sequences of the Braveheart Blu-ray, the daytime scenes in the Bahamas in Casino Royale, any number of bright, animated scenes… All these and more look really eye-catching, and as such are much more satisfying than you’ve any right to expect for £500. However, there’s a price to pay for these good bits. For anything containing a mix of bright and dark material invariably falls prey to the rainbow effect, sometimes to an extent that really distracts from what you’re watching. And I’m saying this as a person who’s by no means as prone to seeing the rainbow effect as some other people I’ve known over the years.’

Short throw projectors are great little devices. They let you get a much larger image in a room that lacks the size for traditional projectors. The short throw lenses also allow the projectors to be placed in front of the audience.

Being in front of the audience means that the presenter doesn’t have bright light in their eyes and people can get up without blocking the image. Both of these new NEC projectors have very similar features. Both have ECO mode stretching lamp life to 5,000 hours. ECO mode also reduces power and notice as well.

The projectors have a virtual remote control, closed captioning support, auto power on, remote diagnostics and autosense for easy connection to a PC. The projectors offer VGA and DVI connectivity along with a built-in RJ45 connection.

Recently, the writers from Gadling published their review of the P2. Having compared other pico projectors in the past, they did not expect this review to be a good one. However, once they turned on the projector they were pleasantly surprised to see that it could display a fairly large image, even well past the projector’s limits. Using the on-screen menu was simple and clear and the remote control allowed them to remain seated during the review. One of the concerns that they had was with the fan noise. Even though the projector uses LED lamp systems, the projector still has a distracting cooling fan that will require the volume to be turned up to drown the fan out. The final statement that the writer made was, ‘After playing with the Aaxa P2 for a couple of weeks, my faith in pico projectors is back. Don’t get me wrong - the first generation was fun to play with, but it was hardly something you could actually use for anything more than showing off.’

When it comes to projectors, the brand name NEC holds plenty of promise, where they have recently announced a couple more professional installation projectors in the form of the NP2200 and NP1200 which were specially designed to meet demanding integration projects. Part of the powerful NP Installation Series, both models will definitely carve a happy smile on the faces of folks who require bright light output for large screens without having to break the bank. We shall take a look at both models in greater detail right after the jump.

First off, the NP2200 - this model is capable of displaying a high level of brightness at 4,200 ANSI lumens, followed by the NP1200 which has a lower output of 3700 lumens. Either way, both models are very bright in their own right, making them the perfect choice for corporate and higher education environments. Eco-minded corporations and individuals will be pleased to know that both models are also energy-efficient, consuming a low 0.4W rating in standby mode by utilizing ECO Mode technology in order to help keep our planet green. This projector features 2000 ANSI lumens, a 16:10 aspect ratio, 400:1 contrast ratio, and WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. The projector is capable of displaying up to a 120’ screen from only 7.2 feet away. The short throw lens allows the projector to be mounted in a place that reduces shadow and keeps the light out of the presenter’s eyes. One of the latest projectors to be released by NEC is the NP215, which features 2500 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. Recently, the writers from V3 got the opportunity to see the NP215 and release their review. The first thing they realize when they take the projector from the box is that it has some weight to it. The NP215 only weights 5.5 lbs, which isn’t terribly heavy, but it is heavy enough to prevent this projector from being a true mobile projector. The writers were happy with the connection panel, but the projector could have included more with the network features. The display was a positive experience with the exception of a slight rainbow effect that was only visible during high-contrast scenes. The writer concluded by stating, ‘Calling it a mobile projector is perhaps pushing it a bit, at a weight of 2.5kg, but the NP215 performs reasonably well. However, although the ability to control multiple units via the included software is a bonus, it’s a shame NEC didn’t make more of the projector’s built-in network connection.’

Projectiondesign F35 is world’s first 2560 x 1600 projector

I spend lots of time in front of the computer so years ago I purchased a massive 30-inch Dell monitor. This thing lets me get several pages up side by side and rocks for high resolution gaming at 2560 x 1600. The 30-inch LCDs are traditionally the only display devices that hit a resolution that high. Projectiondesign has unveiled a new projector called the F35 that joins the 2560 x 1600 club.

The new projector uses the Texas Instruments WQXGA DLP chip and brightness is rated at 6500 lumens. The contrast ratio for the projector is 8000:1 and it supports 720p HD resolutions as well as 1080i. Inputs include DVI-D, dual HDMI 1.3, dual VGA, and component.

The projector measures 376 x 510 x 223mm and weighs 12.6kg. The projector is capable of throwing an image of up to 65 feet wide. That is one seriously big picture. The F35 is set to hit market in the second half of 2010 and will be expensive I am sure.

Classrooms everywhere are quickly changing to integrate the latest technology. A new company called ONfinity has recently announced a new projector that is perfect for the classroom, the CM2 MAX. This model has limited specifications, but it can project up to a 150’ diagonal display and features a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. This projector is designed to be portable and weighs less than a pound. The main feature about the projector is the included E-Pen, which allows the user to interact with the screen with out having to go to their computer all the time. The E-Pen can be detected by the projector and tells the software where it is in relation to the display. The user can then control the screen using the pen just like a mouse control. By tapping on the screen, the writer can open and close programs and even move objects on the display. There is also a smaller writing E-Pen included that allows the user to draw or write onto the screen as well. The retail price for this projector has not been released, but it is available through the company.

The Epson EH-TW2900 projector is one of the newer home theater projectors to come from Epson. This model features an 18000:1 contrast ratio, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and 1600 ANSI lumens. Today, the writers from Epson released their review of this device. The first thing they notice is that this projector has a fairly big footprint, which could deter anyone who was looking for a projector they could take with them on trips. The writers were very happy to all the helpful image adjustment features in the menu. They were equally happy to see how easy it was to find them and control them. The main attraction to this projector is the image. Because the TW2900 is a 3LCD display, there was no rainbow effect to worry about, which was a big difference. The display was able to give natural color tones with out looking too faded or to cartoonish. However, even with a colorful display, the image was not able to deliver the HD sharpness that other projectors can provide. The contrast was also a concern for the writers. When compared to DLP projectors, the TW2900’s black levels were faded and could not show the detail as well. The final verdict that was made about the TW2900 was, ‘I somehow contrived to finish the main review on what felt like something of a downer. But this really isn’t a fair reflection of the Epson TW2900 overall. For while it might not have the brassy casual appeal of Optoma and BenQ’s recent mega-cheap DLP models, it certainly does have the setup flexibility (especially the image shifting), features and refinement to appeal to a more serious movie-loving audience. Which is no mean feat with such an affordable model. Plus, of course, if you’ve been looking at the Optoma and/or BenQ models and found that you’re particularly susceptible to seeing the DLP rainbow effect, the simple artefact-free nature of the TW2900’s pictures will feel like the home projection equivalent of taking a Nurofen.’

Planar is a worldwide leader in specialty display solutions. They are also owner of Runco, which is a leading provider of high-end home theater projectors. Today, Planar announced that their two latest models, the QuantumColor Q-750i and Q-750d are now officially available worldwide. Both of these projectors are the first from the company to feature ‘lampless’ projection systems. But instead they use the new LED lamps which are designed to last far longer than the normal lamp systems. These projectors share the same specifications, including full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, a 10000:1 contrast ratio, and 700 ANSI lumens. The major difference is that the Q-750d model has all the connections and adjustment features included into an external video processor whereas the Q-750i has everything included into the projector. The external processor allows the 750d to be placed in difficult out of reach places while the controls are safely placed somewhere that is easy to access. ‘The QuantumColor projectors mark a new era in video projection for the industry and for Runco. Setup options are a little limited: There’s no optical lens shift or keystone correction and certainly no motorized zoom or focus. Most of these features can be had on competing projectors – if you’re willing to step down to 720p resolution. Taking this and the lack of advanced video processing into account, it’s easy to see what’s missing compared to a high-end model, but what this projector does do, it does so well that Optoma is onto a sure-fire winner with the HD20.’

But for those who are new to projectors, this model is a good choice to make. The X1230 is currently available through certified retailers, but Acer has not yet released the retail price.

Recently, the writer from Trusted Review released their experience with the projector. The writer was skeptical going into the review because of the projector’s low price tag and the fact that previous BenQ projectors have not performed well for them. The chassis is nothing to be excited about. The grey and black color palette looks rushed and the box design does not help with this thought. They were happy to see that the connection panel had a wide array of connections, including dual HDMI ports, RGB, composite, component, and an s-video connection. One aspect that the writers didn’t like was that even though the projector looked simple enough, the setup process was anything but simple. The projector’s screen adjustment features were limited and couldn’t provide what the writer was looking for. The image presented was also not the projector’s best, but with some tinkering and tweaking, the writer was able to get a desired image. However, even with these problems, the writer still stamped the W1000 as a recommended projector and stated, ‘When all’s said and done, the W1000 is pretty much equivalent in basic performance quality to the Optoma HD20. But it distinguishes itself to aficionados courtesy of its impressive fine-tuning flexibility. So the choice is simple. If you’re not into tinkering, save yourself £100 and get the Optoma HD20. But if you can be bothered to go the extra mile with its extra calibration options, earning an incremental boost in picture quality for your trouble, fork out a bit extra for the W1000.’

This projector is only capable of displaying HD (1280 x 720) resolution, but it also features 2500 ANSI lumens and a 4000:1 contrast ratio. ‘3D brings a new dimension to both the gaming and movie experiences,’ said Jon Grodem, Optoma’s director of product and marketing. ‘While gaming is poised to lead the charge in 3D content in the home, movies will follow soon. And the 3D Ready HD66 brings it all home in one HD projector at an affordable price.’ The HD66 comes with a limited but suitable connection panel that includes HDMI, composite, s-video, and a RGB connection. The 3D projector will still require the users to wear 3D glasses, but it is the beginning of 3D home entertainment for the projector industry. Christie is showing their developments at this year’s Intersevice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference. The product that Christie will be displaying is their new Matrix StIM projector, which features WUXGA (1920 x 1200) resolution, 600 ANSI lumens, and a 100000:1 contrast ratio. Five of these projectors will be used in a display by Flight Safety International. The display uses the projectors to demonstrate the ease of use, the ability to mount the projectors in any orientation, and eliminate the need for consumables. A pico projector with Windows CE OS 5.0 on board? Yes, there are devices like that. Japan-based Lancerlink announced [JP] one of these today, the MPJ-104WCE. What you get is basically an LCOS (3M) projector with a mini computer built into it (the Windows CE is an English version).

The projector produces 10-30 inch pictures with 640x480 resolution and 10 lumens brightness. There are also two 0.5W speakers. built into the body. But sized at just 138.5x58.5x25mm, the device also sports a Samsung ARM 9 processor at 400MHz, 64MB of internal memory (up to 4GB with an SD card), a USB port, an SD card interface and native support for MS Powerpoint, Excel and Word files.

It’s also possible to view PDFs directly from the projector. Video formats supported are WMV/MPEG-4, music can be played as MP3/WMA/WAV files and pictures can be viewed as JPEGs or BMPs. Lancerlink says the battery will work for 120 minutes continuously.

The MPJ-104WCE will go on sale in Japan from the middle of next month for $580. If you’re interested but live outside this country, you might want to contact the Japan Trend Shop or Geek Stuff 4 U if they can buy one for you.

While this is an amazing feat of technology - what good will it do to you? This resolution is way beyond 1080p so it's overkill for consumer level movies. It will be better suited for professionals who want to show images or presentations at a resolution that is comparable to a high-end 30' display (it is stunning, believe me). Computer graphics enthusiast can also render custom-sized movies and of course, if money is burning your pockets, you could even use it for gaming. The Sony BRAVIA series are some of the best home theater projectors in the industry. Today, the company announced that three high-end projectors will be released to New Zealand. All three models feature Sony’s patented SXRD display technology and a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The Silicon X-tal Reflective Display panel is Sony’s own design of the common LCD panel.

First to be released is the VPL-HW15. This model features 1000 ANSI lumens and a 60000:1 contrast ratio. The extra large contrast ensures that all the dark scenes are accurate and do not look faded. The connection panel includes dual HDMI ports as well as a composite, component, s-video and RGB port. This projector retails for just under $3000 and is already available.

Next is the VPL-VW85, which comes with 800 ANSI lumens, but a much higher 120000:1 contrast ratio. The connection panel is similar to the HW15, but it also comes with a second component jack and some audio ports as well. Sony is pricing this projector at $8000.

Lastly is the Sony VPL-VW200. This model is the company’s latest flagship in the Bravia series. The VW200 features 1000 ANSI lumens and a 35000:1 contrast ratio. This projector is fairly simple to use, but it is also designed to give avid movie watchers the opportunity to tweak the image.
