Sony VPL-VW85 Projector Review

VPL-VW85_A1

The Sony VPL-VW85 is one of the company’s latest home theater projectors. This model feature full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 800 ANSI lumens, and a 120000:1 contrast ratio. Today, Trusted Reviews released their review of this impressive machine. One of the first things, the writer noticed was the exceptional price hike on the VW85. Part of the reason is because the VW85 uses the latest in 3SXRD display panels. SXRD is Sony’s patented version of the LCoS display technology but feature a thinner panel, which also doubles the chips’ speed. The projector is virtually ready to go as soon as it is taken from the box. The writers did decide to fine tune the display a little but fortunately the menu was easy and provided all the adjustment settings they needed. The writers were very impressed with the projector’s performance, especially with the sharpness, which has been known to be Sony’s strength. The only concern is some of the preset settings that are suppose to help smooth the picture and make it easier to watch. However, these settings don’t need to be on and the image can still be enjoyable. The final verdict the writer made was, ‘As well as succeeding where its predecessor did not in justifying its price hike over Sony’s latest entry-level SXRD model, the VW85 sets a really high new standard for the £5,000 sector of the projector market. Will JVC’s new D-ILA models manage to be even better? Well, sadly I just don’t know right now. But man, it’s going to be fun finding out…’

ViewSonic PJD6381 Projector Review

PJD6381

The ViewSonic PJD6381 is one of their latest projectors. This model features XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, 2500 ANSI lumens, and a 2400:1 contrast ratio. Recently, the writers from PC World got the opportunity to review this projector to see how good it is. One of the major features is that the projector offers 3D capabilities and is also compatible with the NVIDIA GeForce 3D system. The only problem is that it requires the user to go out and purchase the extra equipment. The projector is designed mainly for business applications and doesn’t have any digital inputs like DVI-I or HDMI. The writers would have liked to see these inputs. Other aspects that the writer liked included the brightness, color, and the short throw distance. However, the main problem that the writers also noticed was the loud cooling fan. The writers found it very distracting at time, which is not good when a presenter wants all the attention on them.

Hitachi Releases CP-D10 Projector in Australia

CP-D10_a1

Hitachi is releasing a new projector into Australia, the CP-D10. This projector features 2000 ANSI lumens, 400:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. The main feature about the D10 is the new free-shaped plastic lens that helps reduce shadowing and eye glare. The lens is also a short throw lens that allows the projector to display up to a 100 inch display from less than 4 feet away. The projector is light weight, which makes it ideal for ceiling mounting to help keep the projector light out of the eyes of the presenter. Hitachi digital presentations solutions division product manager Bill Christoforou said, ‘Short throw projectors are ideal in smaller rooms where space is limited but a large screen size is required.’ The CP-D10 is available through Hitachi as well as certified retailers and the MSRP is RRP $2145 ($1961).

CineVERSUM Releases 2.35 Cinemax Pro Lens Kit

cinemaxpro_a1

CineVERSUM is known for high-end home theater projectors and products. Today, the company announced that their latest projector, the BlackWing One will have a new lens attachment available. The 2.35 Cinemax Pro kit is an updated version of the older 2.35 Cinemax Option kit. The Pro kit includes a high-precision spherical anamorphic lens that provides full screen displays. Anamorphic lenses are very popular in home theaters because they stretch the image from its normal size to the size of the entire screen. This eliminates the black bars that are found above and below the display when you watch a widescreen version of a movie. Another major feature about the Cinemax Pro kit is that it is easy to install onto the BlackWing One and it doesn’t have any moving parts or require any additional electricity to use. The 2.35 Cinemax Pro kit is already available through CineVERSUM. However the retail price has not been released.

CP1_a1

Are you tired of carrying around a clunky laptop? Well this new pico projector might be the answer. Today, Allcam announced the release of their first projector, the CP1. What makes this model special is that it is also a handheld computer that uses the projector as the display screen. The CP1 features VGA (640 x 480) resolution and only 10 ANSI lumens. It uses LCoS display technology with an older white LED lamp system. The only connections available are dual mini USB connections; one for a host and another to connect to the main PC. The CP1 will not outperform any laptop you currently have, but it’s a nice alternative for anyone who can’t or doesn’t carry one with them to meetings. To control the computer, Allcam has included a mouse touch pad and buttons on top instead of the keypad that is typically found on pico projectors. Other major features include a 64MB internal memory with another possible 4GB from an SD card, 4 hour battery life, and built in speakers. Allcam has released the CP1 through Amazon for a retail price of £194 ($288).

BenQ Joybee GP1 Review

The BenQ Joybee GP1 is a mini-projector that is marketed by BenQ as a fun device that follows you in any room, in any place. The Joybee GP1 accepts VGA or analog signals, so it is compatible with a wide range of devices from laptops to game consoles or DVD players. Its resolution is slightly higher than DVD, which makes it a good candidate to play movie with. It is small - much smaller in fact than most projectors thanks its LED lighting system. That sounds pretty cool, but how does it do in the real world?

BenQ W6000 Projector Review

W6000_a1

The BenQ W6000 was one of the many projectors the company recently released. This home theater model features 2500 ANSI lumens, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and a 50000:1 contrast ratio. Recently, the writers from Trusted Reviews got their hands on this device to review. As always the reviewers first look at the projector’s design and they admit that it is a little bigger than they are used to. However the glossy black finish adds a classy touch that they liked. Their only concern about the design was that the front cooling vent allowed a lot of light to escape the machine which could become a distraction to some. After a quick setup the writers noticed that the menu and on-screen adjustment features are very user friendly. But even though the menu is very ‘cuddly’ the truth is that the W6000 is a serious home theater projector. The image is very bright and the images displayed are superbly intense and vibrant. The extra high contrast ratio also contributes to the impressive display. There were only two major concerns that the writer had about the projector’s performance. The first is that the projector does have a slight rainbow effect that most DLP projectors have. Fortunately though, this is only noticeable during extreme light and dark contrasts like rolling credits. The other major concern involves the projector’s motion handling. During really fast action scenes the image can get a bit blurred. However even with these problems, the writer concludes by saying, ‘With the W6000, BenQ has conjured up a bold, brash, dynamic projector that outshines most, if not all, rivals in its price bracket when it comes to brightness and color. While this gives the W6000 immediate ’shelf appeal’, though, and may help it gain an immediate advantage in any head-to-head shoot-outs, the longer you live with it, the more clumsy some aspects of its implementation start to appear. Especially if you can’t build the thing into a soundproof box!’

The mirror magnifies the image, allowing giving the projector it’s short throw distance. Dell M109S Projector Review

m109s_a1

The Dell M109S projector is the company’s smallest projector available. It measures 3.6’ x 1.5’ x 4.1’ (W x H x D) and weighs only 0.8 lbs. The projector also features an 800:1 contrast ratio, SVGA (858 x 600) resolution, and 50 ANSI lumens. Recently, the writers from Macworld got the opportunity to test the M109S. One of the bigger problems that the writers had was that Dell really cut back on the features that are usually found in all Dell projectors. The low resolution and brightness level only gives the projector a fair rating on their scale. Other features include fixed lens with no zoom, no audio or USB connection, no remote control, and no way to adjust the projector like adjustable feet or a tripod. The upside to cutting all these features means that the projector is incredibly light and it consumes a considerably less amount of energy. Unfortunately though, because the projector doesn’t have a remote control, the only control option is the touch sensitive keypad on top of the projector. The last comment the writers made about the M109S projector was, ‘All in all, it’s difficult to recommend Dell’s M109S for mobile presentations when for just a few dollars more you can have a slightly larger LED projector that’s twice as bright, provides better image quality, and has more features (including a remote and a built-in speaker). However, Dell frequently offers this product at a reduced price when you purchase it online, and that could make the M109S a much better deal for economy-minded mobile users who do small-group meetings or one-on-one presentations.’

Sanyo releases two more projectors

sanyo-projector

Sanyo is an old name when it comes to projectors, and this has seen the company roll out two more models for the masses - the PLC-XM150/150L and PLC-XM100/100L projectors, where they will be the company’s representative of the type with out-of-the-box functions and high-brightness/high-image-quality technologies which have seen Sanyo’s line of projectors make it all the way to the top of the industry. The PLC-XM150/150L has been touted to be the highest brightness projector in its ‘lesser’ sibling, the PLC-XM100/100L (we use the term lesser here on a liberal basis), it will come with a brightness rating of 5000 lumens. Users of these new projectors will find an inorganic liquid crystal panel that has been incorporated into the newly developed optical engine while working in tandem with a superior cooling technology that enables both projectors to boast such high brightness levels.

Compared to other conventional models from Sanyo thenmselves, these will come with a light efficiency that is approximately 20% higher, making it possible for use in large venues and well-lit areas with a large screen need, turning it into a form of digital signage for the masses as well. You will find that both models will come with Sanyo’s very own Active Maintenance Filter (AMF) system for a higher degree of reliability and trouble-free maintenance. A single cartridge will come with 10 filter rolls that ought to last you for up to 10,000 hours thereabouts. Whenever the system detects air blocks or clogs, the filter reel will scroll to the next clean filter.

Users will find that there are five lens options available for the PLC-XM150/150L and PLC-XM100/100L, giving you the opportunity to select the best lens possible for the installation site at all times. This ensures that the projectors can be used in a wide variety of venue settings, ranging from medium to large conference rooms, classrooms, school auditoriums and lecture halls. Installation is painless and easy, while other functions available include advanced Power Vertical/Horizontal Lens Shifting and Power Zoom/Focus, Vertical 360-degree Tilt Angle, compatibility with Sanyo’s optional PJ-NET Organizer and Direct Power-off among others. Expect the PLC-XM150/150L to arrive this November for $4,795 sans lens, while the PLC-XM100/100L will come a month later, retailing for $3,895 without lens.

EB-1925W_m1

Epson is the world leader in the video projector market. Today, the company announced their latest EB-1900 projector series, which includes the EB-1925W, 1920W, 1910, 1915, and the EB-1830. First on the list is the EB-1925W and EB-1915. Both of these projectors are already available and feature 4000 ANSI lumens. The only difference between these two is that the 1925W features a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, while the 1915 has a XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. Both projectors also feature wireless USB connections via a WiFi connection.

Unfortunately the only additional information at this time is that both projectors come with dual USB ports and a 1.6x manual zoom. More information will be released as it becomes available

Last is the EB-1830. This projector shares the XGA (1024 x 768) resolution as the 1910, but instead it only has 3500 ANSI lumens. The 1830 is being kept a secret just like the 1910 and 1920W projectors, but the 1830 does also share the same small white chassis as all the projectors have. Again, more information will be released as it becomes available.

Plus, despite all its high-end features, its user-friendly interface makes it easy to sit back and enjoy the view.’ The DLA-RS4000 is currently available through JVC, but the retail price is a little expensive, marketed at $175000.

Jakks Pacific EyeClops Mini Projector Review

eyeclops_a1

One of the highly anticipated pico projectors is the Jakks Pacific EyeClops Mini Projector. This little device uses D sized batteries and LEDs to create a display size up to 70 inches. Recently, I4U got the opportunity to review this toy to see how well it could do. The first thing they noticed was the compact size, which was about the size of many other pico projectors that they have reviewed. While most pico projectors are being designed for business applications, the EyeClops is designed for entertainment, more specifically for kids to watch videos or play games anywhere. The $100 price tag appeals too many, but the writers stress the fact that this projector will not replace a home theater system. One major flaw is a common problem with pico projectors in that the EyeClops is not very bright and requires almost complete darkness in order to get a quality image. The writers did notice a few other problems with the projector, but they do state that for only $100, flaws are expected. They concluded the review by saying, ‘As a toy for kids, the EyeClops Mini Projector is good and not too expensive. The battery powered stand is also a nice touch that will let kids watch movies outside or wherever they happen to be without needing a power cable. That battery powered DVD player just become a lot more fun with the EyeClops Mini Projector around. The projector has an onboard speaker that is loud enough to be heard in another room. I know I had to tell my son to turn it down several times.’

Sony VPL-HW15 Projector Review

VPL-HW15_a1

The Sony VPL-HW15 projector is one of the newest additions to the company’s BRAVIA series. This model features 1000 ANSI lumens, a 60000:1 contrast ratio, and HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, Trusted Reviews released their review of the HW15 to see how good it is. Even though the projector is a little husky, the writers were happy to see that the projector had a sturdy build. The writers had one of the easiest setups with this projector and liked the fact that it had such a diverse array of connections. Almost everything about the projector received high marks from the writer, the only concerns that the writer mentioned involved many of the extra features like the auto iris. The writer also mentioned that not all the colors were perfect, especially during darkish scenes. However, even with these minor flaws, the writer’s verdict was, ‘The first of Sony’s new projectors suggests that SXRD technology is certainly not, as I’d feared, going to be left behind in the mad race for projection domination we’re destined to witness in the coming pre-Christmas weeks. The VPL-HW15 is pretty, considerate, surprisingly affordable, and best of all, really very good.’

Optoma HD20 Projector Review

hd20_a1

The Optoma HD20 was released a few months ago but it still is a popular home theater projector. This model comes with 1700 ANSI lumens a 4000:1 contrast ratio and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Today, Trusted Reviews got the opportunity to release their review of this projector. The main appeal about this projector is that it is capable of displaying full 1080p content for a cheap price. However it is easy to tell that in order to get the high quality images for the low price, many sacrifices had to be made and the first obvious one is the cheesy plastic cover. Another is the fact that the projector has a rather large grille next to the lamp and it tends to expose a lot of light. This leak not only prevents the projector from being brighter, but it can be distracting, especially if you are in a fully dark room. The display did excel in sharpness and in color, but the contrast and black levels were only above acceptable. Fortunately the writer was able see dark scenes with out trouble. The final verdict that the writer made was, ‘If you’ve read the main review carefully, you’ll have noticed that pretty much every time I’ve praised the HD20, it’s been along the lines of it being better than expected for its money, rather than suggesting that it represents the last word in projection excellence. I want this to be totally clear, because I don’t want die-hard AV aficionados to think the HD20 is so good it makes redundant the idea of spending more money (if you’ve got it) to get something better. Having cleared that up, though, there’s simply no denying that the HD20 shifts the goalposts of what I’d considered possible on a £900 DLP projector, and in doing so opens the quality big screen home cinema door to a whole new budget market. And that’s enough in itself to make the HD20 thoroughly deserving of a Recommended badge.’

Meet Microvision's new laser-based SHOW WX pico-projector

Microvisions upcoming pico-projector, named ShowWX, is turning heads and looks to be raising the bar for mobile projectors. With its industry-leading resolution and instant auto-focus features, it makes interfacing with portable devices on the move easier than ever.

Microvision Show-WX

Microvision just struck a deal to start shipping its PicoP-based SHOW WX pico projector in Asia, and while the size may not blow any minds, the image quality just might. With a native 848 x 480 resolution (WVGA), this one pumps out more pixels than pretty much any other pico projector on the market today, and with enough darkness, it can actually spit out an image thats around 100-inches in size.

Mitsubishi HC7000 Projector Review

HC7000_a1

The Mitsubishi HC7000 projector is one of the company’s best home theater models. This projector features full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 1000 ANSI lumens, and an impressive 72000:1 contrast ratio. Recently, the writers from PC World released their review of this model. The writers could easily tell that this projector was designed for home theater enthusiasts with its dual HDMI ports, VGA connection, component, composite, and audio ports. The images were very crisp and clear and showed no signs of fading or motion judder. One concern that the writer mentioned is that they thought the HC7000 was not bright enough. In brightly lit rooms, the contrast greately suffered and the images looked washed out. The writers stated though that the brightness issue would not be a problem for dedicated theater rooms that turn off all the lights when the movie is on. However even with this brightness issue, the writers stated, ‘There’s no question that the HC7000 is the best serious home theater projector we’ve ever seen from Mitsubishi. It has class-leading contrast, color accuracy and vibrancy; near-silent running; and incredible clarity. If you need a projector for a traditional home theater room, look no further than this model.’

Dell M109S Projector Review

m109s_a1

The Dell M109S has been out for almost a year now. This pocket projector features 50 ANSI lumens, an 800:1 contrast ratio, and SVGA (858 x 600) resolution. Recently, PC World reviewed this projector to see how well the LED lamp system handled. The first comment the writers stated was that the low brightness is only ideal for small groups and rooms that can be almost pitch black. The writers were impressed with the weight and small size of the device. Even with the needed accessories the projector weights less than 2 lbs, this makes it incredibly portable. The writers were not impressed with the low contrast and overall performance. They thought that is severally lacked when compared to other similar projectors. Their final thought was, ‘All in all, it’s difficult to recommend the Dell M109S for mobile presentations when for just $50 more you can have a slightly larger LED projector that’s twice as bright, provides better image quality, and has more features (including a remote and a built-in speaker). However, Dell frequently offers this product at a reduced price when you purchase it online, and that could make the M109S a much better deal for economy-minded mobile users who do small-group meetings or one-on-one presentations.’
