Epson EH-TW5500 Projector Review

EH-TW5500_a1

The Epson EH-TW5500 is one of the company’s newest home theater projectors. This model features 1600 ANSI lumens, a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and 200000:1 contrast ratio. Recently, the writers from Stuff got the opportunity to see what this projector can do. Right from the box, the writers note that the TW5500 is not the prettiest projector they have seen. The matt-black finish and bulky design does not makes projector look to appealing. They even note that the projector looks like an overgrown business projector. But they also note that it’s not what the projector looks like that makes it great, it’s how well the projector performs. After a quick setup, the writers first notice the new iris system, which helps contribute the 2000000:1 contrast ratio. This system makes some of the best contrast that the writers have seen. They also liked the projector’s ability to display color, and noted that the image displayed high-impact saturations with subtle blends and natural tones. In the end, the final thought was, ‘Epson’s flagship projector proves in no uncertain terms that LCD fully deserves a seat at the high-end home cinema table.’

World’s First 3D Projector

darthvadarprojector

Back in August, you may have read about the world’s first projector camera from the 1950s. Recently, another first has serviced, the Stereo Realist Model 81. This device was made in 1950 by the David White Sales Company and is the world’s first 3D projector. Nowadays 3D is quickly becoming the next big technology in the video business. The Stereo Realist Model 81 is not only a 3D projector, but also a slide projector that required the user to feed two images into it at the same time. The writers at Gizmodo also state how incredible this device looks to a specific sci-fi villain from the 1970s. Click the link below to see the full gallery.

Sony Uses SRX-R320 to Show 3D Demonstration at International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition

SRX-R320_a1

3D projection doesn’t have to be always used towards entertainment. Today, Sony is demonstrating the importance of 3D technology in the business industry as they demonstrate at the International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition. Here, the company is demonstrating their latest 3D digital projector, the SRX-R320, which features a 4K HD (4096 x 2160) resolution, 18000 ANSI lumens, and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. This projector is perfectly capable of displaying 3D content in full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and does so using the polarization technique. This process requires the projector to polarize each image differently, either horizontal or vertically, depending on which eye the image is intended for. The viewer then watches the display with polarized glasses. The glasses are designed so that each eye only sees the frames that are polarized the same way. This ensures that each eye only sees a specific set of images. ‘In the United States, 3D images are already broadcast in live sports and music programs via cable TV networks and satellite broadcasting,’ Sony said. ‘In the future, such movements will occur in Japan, too.’

HypnosEye iPhone projector

No, we're not talking about the iPhone getting its very own built-in projector here, but the HypnosEye can connect to your iPhone, iPod touch or other mobile devices while projecting it via a separate light source by using a special anti-glare mirror and lens to blow up the screen onto a projection surface. The HypnosEye claims that you are able to project an image from 17? to 45? diagonal from a projection distance of 0.5 to 2 meters away, but that remains to be seen until tested. Needless to say, you'll need to reduce the lights to a very dim level in order to see your images. Each purchase of the HypnosEye kit is equipped with both the projection lens unit and a portable 17? diagonal projection surface, retailing for $80 a pop.

LightSleeper projector brings heavy sleep for light sleepers

LightSleeper projector brings heavy sleep for light sleeperslighht_sleeper.jpg If you’re a hard worker, or not, but are having trouble with sleep or the lack of it thereof, there aren’t too many gadgets designed to assist you with the issue. However, a UK company called Quincom's Design Manager; a Ms. Kate Evan has developed what could be the solution for a good night’s sleep. The device, a mini projector that looks like a webcam, called LightSleeper, projects an image of moving light across the room’s ceiling in a controlled circular motion. The idea behind this is for you to just lay back and follow the motions of the projector which should induce relaxation and thereby sleep. The projector comes with a built in 30 minutes sleep timer so it doesn’t unnecessary consume power or have your neighbors wondering what’s going on. In case you’re still not asleep after 30 minutes, a light tap will reactivate the system. Kate Evan herself was an insomniac so she designed the LightSleeper to help cope. It seems that the concept could also be quite akin to that of hypnotism. Mind that no one in the vicinity projects any unwarranted suggestions while you’re ‘under’ or should I say ‘sound asleep’. LightSleeper is available from Lightsleeper.co.uk at £125. It will also be available shortly on Boots.com

Hitachi Releases Seven New Short Throw Projectors

CP-D10_a1

Hitachi is known for their educational projectors. Recently, the company announced a new series of short throw projectors. Seven new models are being released for the UK and all of them feature the latest in 3LCD technology, a 400:1 contrast ratio, and 2000 ANSI lumens. These projectors are designed with short throw lenses that helps reduce shadows on the screen and it keeps the projector from shinning in the presenter’s eyes.

The first two models on the list are the CP-D10 and CP-DW10N. The only major difference between these two is that the D10 only features a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, while the DW10N features a widescreen WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. The extra wide resolution is more compatible with today’s laptops and allows for the teacher to display their presentations with out needing to reformat them.

Next on the list is the CP-AW100N. This model uses Hitachi’s mirror system that uses a mirror to magnify the image, ultimately reducing the throw distance. This projector also features WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution and weighs only 10.4 lbs, which is just light enough for ceiling mounting.

The next two model are virtually identical, the ED-D10N and the ED-D11N. Both projectors feature XGA (1024 x 768) resolution and only weigh 8.2 lbs. The difference between the two is that the D10N features a classic white and black finish, while the D11N features a more noticeable orange and black chassis. This color allows the projector to be easily seen and also helps deter thieves from stealing the projector.

The last two projectors are the ED-AW100N and ED-AW110N. These projectors both feature the WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The difference between these two is the same between the last two projectors. The AW100N features a white chassis, while the AW110N features an orange chassis. Both projectors also come with an HDMI input, dual RGB connections, a composite, s-video, and several audio ports as well.

ViewSonic PJ260D Projector Review

pj260d_a1.jpg

The ViewSonic PJ260D is one the company’s many successful data projectors. This model can display XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and 2000 ANSI lumens. Today, the writers from Mac World got the opportunity to release their review this projector. Right from the start, the writers know that this projector is solely designed for business presentations. The projector weights only 2.9 lbs making it easy to travel with between presentations. The writers also highlight the projector’s brightness. The 2000 ANSI lumens, is more than enough to display in a room that is lit with artificial light. One of the big concerns however, is that the projector doesn’t have any HDMI ports. Instead, the projector only comes with a RGB, composite, and an s-video port. Another problem that the writer found was that the color was not the best possible. They found that the color accuracy and saturation were not good, compared to leading competitors. The writers concluded by stating, ‘If your primary use for a projector is to make presentations, and if you don’t mind running your presentations in 1024-by-768-resolution (to obtain the best image sharpness and clarity) or fiddling with the controls to get the best color, the PJ260D might be for you.’

InFocus releases new digital projectors for conference rooms and classrooms

infocus

InFocus is a name that most people would associate with digital projection technology, and the company has just released a new range of digital projectors that will come with features which make them the ideal candidates for business and education markets. First of all, the IN3900 series will merge signature InFocus technologies for ease of use, full connectivity and superior image quality alongside LiteBoard. For the uninitiated (including myself), LiteBoard is an interactive solution that turns digitally projected content into a collaborative workspace.

Being the watershed device where LiteBoard-ready projectors are concerned, the IN3900 series will increase yet another level of interactivity to digital displays, enabling users to annotate, append and highlight projected content wirelessly via an optional LiteBoard Wand. Presenters also have the choice of projecting their file(s) of choice sans a PC as long as they have a USB flash drive stuck into an available USB port on the projector itself, accompanied by the InFocus LitePort. Capable of hitting a maximum brightness of 3,000 lumens, the IN3900 series will also feature native resolutions of up to WXGA, and DLP technology with the InFocus BrilliantColor enhancement to deliver vivid, true-to-life colors and industry-leading picture quality. Other features include embedded networking, RS232 control and a built-in web browser, allowing full projector management over any network.

Meant to be extremely flexible, the IN3900 series will boast a host of connectivity options that will include standard analog VGA and HDMI 1.3, wireless-ready support for InFocus LiteShow II for multiple users over a standard Wi-Fi connection and even InFocus DisplayLink Wireless for point-to-point connectivity over Ultra-wideband (UWB). This new series will come in the form of the InFocus IN3902 (XGA, 1024 X 768 resolution) and IN3904 (WXGA, 1280 X 800 resolution). Pricing details might vary from shop to shop, so do check with your local dealer if you’re interested in picking one up.

Hitachi CP-X4020 Projector Review

CP-X4020_a1

The Hitachi CP-X4020 is one of the latest projectors to be released by Hitachi. This model features 4000 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. Recently, the writers from Projector Central released their review of this classroom projector. One of the first aspects they commented on was the projector’s brightness. This projector is capable of displaying over 4000 ANSI lumens, which is more than bright enough for normally lit rooms. Even during Eco mode, the brightness did not suffer sufficiently. The projector also received high marks in color, overall image quality, security features, and connectivity. The writers didn’t have a lot of problems to speak of other than the loud fan noise. The projector creates a 35d dB noise level, which could be distracting to some. In the end, the writers said, ‘For commercial and educational applications, the Hitachi CP-X4020 is a strong player among the field of bright XGA projectors. The fan noise and lens offset issues argue against tabletop use. But if higher native resolution is not needed, its features, image quality and configuration make it an excellent choice for installed projection in medium to large conference rooms.’

Princeton Releases PPR-QT Projector

PPR-QT_a1

Over the past year we have seen a wide variety of pico projectors. Some of them are fairly powerful, compared to other pico projectors. Unfortunately the new Princeton PPR-QT is probably one of the weakest. The projector is only capable of displaying a 100:1 contrast ratio, and a 300 x 224 resolution. This resolution is what will prevent this projector from gaining any popularity, especially when most other units feature VGA (640 x 480) resolution or higher. To its credit though, the projector is one of the smallest and is completely square measuring 1.9’ in every direction. The projector also weighs only 120g (0.2 lbs). In addition, the projector is using ferroelectric liquid crystal on silicon (FLCoS) technology. Princeton has not released a date or price for the PPR-QT yet.

InFocus Work Big IN1102 Projector Review

The InFocus Work Big IN1102 is one of the company’s newest data projectors. It features 2200 ANSI lumens, an 1800:1 contrast ratio, and WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. Today, the writers from Mac World released their review of this device. The writers were very happy to see that the projector weighed only 2.8 lbs, but was powerful enough to be used in large conference rooms and rooms with normal lighting. The projector performed perfectly with their image quality tests. The top scores were in motion and video tests with very excellent marks in image rendering, sharpness, and legible text. The only major complaints that the projector had was that the speakers were weak and could have been improved. The writers also didn’t like that there was no HDMI port. However even with these complaints, they concluded by saying, ‘Considering its superior image quality and its general versatility as an all-purpose projector, the InFocus IN1102 is a little more expensive that other ultraportable projectors, but it’s arguably worth the extra bucks.’

Optoma Releases Seven New Projector for All Occasions

EW766_a1

Optoma is one of the leading manufacturers of DLP projectors. Today, the company announced the release of several new models for both the home and work. All of these projectors are low in cost and features an Eco mode and a low energy standby phase, which helps save money in the long run.

To start out, Optoma released a pair of data projectors, the EX765 and EX765W. Both projectors feature 4000 ANSI lumens, a 2500:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. The only difference between the two is that the EX765W comes with WiFi connectivity and can connect to your laptop or computer through a wireless 802.11b/g connection. Other connections include HDMI, DVI, dual RGB ports, an s-video, composite, and a USB port.

Another data projector that is being released is the EW766. This model is similar to the above models in that it also features 4000 ANSI lumens and a 2500:1 contrast ratio. However, this model also comes with a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. The wide resolution is more compatible with today’s laptops’ natural resolution settings. Optoma also created a wireless version called the EW766W.

Optoma also released three new home theater projectors. The first is the HD200X, which features 1500 ANSI lumens, a 3500:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The connection panel is limited, but does come with a VGA port, composite, component, and dual HDMI ports. There is also a 12V trigger port for automated screens, lights, or motorized ceiling mounts.

A lesser, but still impressive projector is the HD700X. This model features 1300 ANSI lumens, HD (1280 x 720) resolution, and a 3000:1 contrast ratio. This projector is also incredibly quiet with a 29 dB noise level. The all black finish also helps make the projector disappear in a dark room setting.

Last but not least is the Optoma HD86. This model is not yet available, but it features 1600 ANSI lumens, a 700:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. The HD86 is one of the few home theater projectors that come with three HDMI ports. It also comes with the standard component, composite, VGA, and s-video ports. More information about the HD86 will be released as it becomes available.

Adapt ADPP-305 Projector Review

ADPP-305_a1

The Adapt ADPP-305 projector is being called the worlds brightest. This model features 45 ANSI lumens, SVGA (800 x 600) resolution, and a MicroSD card slot for added portability. Recently, the writers form Electric Pig got the opportunity to see this projector first hand. The writers were very happy to see that the projector could display up to a 100-inch display, which is a lot bigger than many other pico projectors can provide. Keep in mind that the 305 is still only a pico projector and can not out perform bigger models. But when compared to other pico projectors, the writers definitely think that this is the best model to date. Other aspects that the writers liked included the resolution, connectivity, and most importantly brightness. The 305 is over 4 times brighter than any other pico projector, which is a major advantage. However, the 45 lumens are still not the best for brightly lit rooms. The only major problem that the writers had is that the internal battery only lasts for two hours, which is just short of most movies. The writers concluded by stating, ‘If you’re after a pico projector and can afford the extra outlay, then the Adapt 305 is where it’s at. If you can’t afford it, get saving. This could be the best gadget you buy in 2009.’

Sharper Image Movie/Video Game Projector

Sharper Image Movie/Video Game Projector

00011158-z1Projectors are starting to become very popular with the average consumer, and this particular one is low-priced and just what the average consumer needs.

After all, most consumers just want a way to view their personal DVDs and home movies on a bigger screen. The Sharper Image Entertainment Projector for Movies and Video Games is perfect for this. All that is required of the user is to hook the Projector to a DVD player or gaming station via included cable, and plug it in with the included AC cord.

According to the site, it is best viewed from six feet away. I had a chance to try it out for myself. I held it back more than six feet away from a blank wall, and I was able to get a pretty decent image.

The Projector also has a terrific handle that doubles as a stand for it. The Projector easily pivots, and it is possible for the user to adjust it so it is projected on the ceiling. It even comes with a remote control for power, volume, contrast, and color.

Granted, I wish this Projector could easily connect to an average computer without having to purchase special adapters, such as the 3M MPro 120. I guess you can’t have it both ways. At least the sound is considerably better than the aforementioned projector.

You should be able to purchase the Sharper Image Entertainment Projector from the Sharper Image site for about $129.99. It won’t be available until November 12th, though.
