Recently, the writers from Tone released their review of the TW3500. One of the first things they look at is the connection panel, which includes a composite, s-video, component, RGB, and dual HDMI ports. The writers also like the design of the TW3500 and think it has a stylish appearance that people enjoy. Optoma PK301 Projector Review

One of the many pico projectors that Optoma has is the PK301. This device features 50 ANSI lumens, a WVGA (854 x 480) resolution, and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. Today, the writers from Stuff.tv released their review of this pico projector. One of the first things that the writers commented on was the projector’s size. The projector measures 4.7’ x 1.2’ x 2.7’ (W x H x D) and weighs only half a pound. This allows the projector to be nicely tucked into a jacket pocket or a suit case. After turning the projector on, the writers noticed that the projector was impressively bright. They were able to create an image big enough to be suitable for most meeting rooms. However, the problem is that they noticed that the sharpness was not the best that it could be. This might be a problem for anyone who likes to use small text during their presentation. The Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8100 projector is one of the company’s best home theater models. It comes with full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, 1800 ANSI lumens, and a 36000:1 contrast ratio. Today, PC Magazine released their review of this device. The very first thing they mention is the retail price. The 8100 retails for $1499, which is incredibly inexpensive compared to other projectors of similar specifications. After looking at the device, the writers were happy with the dual HDMI ports that are part of the connection panel. One of the latest projectors to come from LG is the HS201G. This projector features 200 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. Today, the writers from Tech2 released their review of this projector. The feature that sets the projector apart from the other pocket projectors is its FM radio transmission. This feature is designed to allow a user to play audio through an external radio. This not only reduces the projector’s size, but also allows the user to use any speaker system that has FM capabilities. Another feature that the writers liked was the user-friendly on screen menu. The menu includes a lot of screen adjustment features as well as image adjustment feature to ensure the best possible display. The final verdict that the writers made was, ‘Entry-level DLP projectors with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels cost around Rs 32,000. But considering the portability and the host of features that this projector offers, Rs 48,000 is a good price. It carries a 2 year warranty and the LED lamp carries a warranty period of 90 days or 500 hours whichever is earlier. Unless you’re constrained by space we recommend this projector for those who are constantly on the move. It’s also a great device for vacations. Pack an external hard drive with movies, photos and music and carry it along with this projector for a great visual treat at the destination. If you want a projector for home, we suggest going in for a regular projector which will give you much better brightness and higher resolution (1024 x 768) for the same price.’

Samsung Releases H03 Projector in South Korea

You may have heard about the Samsung H03 (AKA SP-H03) projector earlier this year. Today, Samsung is happy to announce that it is finally released in the South Korean market. The projector is the company’s smallest projector to date. It measures only 2.5’ x 1.5’ x 2.5’ (W x H x D). The projector uses LED lamps to create 30 ANSI lumens, a WVGA (854 x 480) resolution, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. The LED lamps are ideal for pocket projectors because of their small size, low energy consumption and extra long life span. The lamp in the H03 is rated to last up to 30000 hrs. This tiny projector is ideal for traveling presenters or anyone who needs a big display with out a lot of equipment. Optoma HD66 Projector Review

The Optoma HD66 is one of the company’s latest home theater projectors. It features 2500 ANSI lumens, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and WXGA (1280 x 720) resolution. Today, Audioholics released their review of this projector. One of the first things they noticed was the low price tag. This was a big plus right out of the gate. The writers also noticed that the projector has 3D technology. The problem though is that the only way to watch 3D content is through the VGA connection. This greatly limits the projector’s capabilities, but at least opens the projector to 3D video games or possible 3D presentations. The only other major complaint the writers had was with the lack of component connections. The writers were very happy with the overall image quality and in their final conclusion stated, ‘While I feel the 3D branding is a bit misleading to the uninformed consumer, the fact is that the HD66 is a fantastic projector for the price. At $700 (less on the street) you are getting a very capable projector with tons of setup options for a very fair price. If you are in to 3D PC gaming… so much the better. A very versatile projector that will have no problems going from the office to the home theater and performing well in both. If you are on a budget and don’t want to buy used, you’re going to have a hard time doing better than the HD66.’

Sanyo Announces New Projectors at ISTE 2010

Sanyo is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of LCD and DLP projectors. Today, the company announced a new initiative to help education by developing new products that focus on classrooms and advancing the technology using in education. Some of the new products include new projectors that feature 3D capabilities and short throw lenses. The PDG-DWL2500 and DPG-DXL2000 were recently announced and both come with 2500 ANSI lumens and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. The short throw distance allows the projectors to be mounted on the same wall that the screen is. This allows the presenter to give their lesson with out worrying about having the light in their eyes or distracting shadows. Sanyo also announced that they will have shortly new wall mounted projector mounts for these projectors. However the model names were not listed. In addition, Sanyo also announced five new projectors that will be coming soon. All of these models will feature a new Wide aspect ratio due to the growing trend of widescreen projectors in the educational field. The PLC-HF10000, PDG-DHT8000L, PLC-WM5500 and PLC-WM4500 are designed more for large venues like auditoriums and lecture halls. The PDG-WL2500 will be designed to join the short throw distance projectors, but still have the widescreen aspect ratio. You can see all of these projectors first hand at the ISTE show this week.

Samsung Releases SP-F10M Projector in UK

Back in May, Samsung announced their SP-F10M projector in the UK. Today, the company is proud to announce that this model is now available for shipping. The company claims that the F10M is the world’s first RGB LED projector to display 1000 ANSI lumens. Other features include a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. The RGB LED lamp system uses red, green, and blue LED lights in order to display images. There are brighter LED projectors currently out on the market, but they use white light lamps for their systems. JVC DLA-HD550 Projector Review

The JVC DLA-HD550 is one of the company’s newest home theater projectors. It can display 1000 ANSI lumens, a 30000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Today, Trusted Reviews released their experience with the HD550. This projector is an entry-level model, which means that it is designed with first time projector owners in mind. The writer who reviewed the HD550 is no stranger to projectors, but they were happy to see how simple the setup was. One highlight included the connection panel with dual HDMI ports. One thing that the writer noticed was that the HD550 does not have the THX certification that it’s bigger brother projector has. The main reason is because there isn’t any color tuning features. While this is fine for an entry level projector it still makes tweaking the image annoying. Other than that, the writer didn’t have any other problems with the HD550. The key element that was highlighted at the end was the 19 dB noise level. This makes the HD550 one of the quietest projectors the writer has ever seen. The final verdict was, ‘JVC’s D-ILA technology has done it again. As with almost every D-ILA Wire Grid projector before it, the HD550 sets new standards for its money. There’s still room for improvement, with JVC stubbornly refusing to give its entry-level models a couple of key features (a PC input and a color management system) that would make them pretty much perfect for their money. But even so, if there’s a better way to spend £3k right now, we’re struggling to think of it!’

Unlike all of its predecessors, this is the first Optoma pico projector to have the lens on the side like a miniature traditional projector. BenQ has announced today that two new projectors are now available in India. The W1000 and W600 have already been released in other countries and now come to India. Today, the writers from CNET gave their review of the H1085FD. One of the aspects that they make clear is that this projector is incredibly cheap compared to other home theater projectors. The Epson EH-TW2900 projector has been out for a while, but it still is one of the company’s leading projectors. It comes with an 18000:1 contrast ratio, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and 1600 ANSI lumens. The writers from CNET got the opportunity to review the projector and they thought that the image quality was ultimately the best part of the projector. The image quality was clean and bright. The action scenes were clear and crisp and the projector was even bright enough to be used in ambient light conditions. One concern the writers did have with the projector was its size and weight. This makes the projector difficult to mount and hard to conceal. However even with this problem, the writer concluded by stating, ‘While Epson’s main focus this year seems to be on the higher end, higher-price section of the projection market, its mid-range TW2900 actually turns out to be a really quite exceptional bargain, delivering far more features and football-friendly quality than you’ve any right to expect for a mere £1,200.’

BeamBox Evolution R-2 pico projector has a bright future

Forgive the pun in the title, but the BeamBox Evolution R-2 pico projector certainly does look as though it can carry the banner for pico projectors worldwide, being the brightest model from the company to date with 40 ANSI lumens of brightness and a 200:1 contrast ratio. Not only that, it boasts native SVGA (800 x 600) resolution alongside a 1GB hard drive (we would have preferred flash memory to be used instead for such a paltry amount for obvious reasons) and an integrated media player, letting you playback videos, photo slides, and MP3 files without requiring to hook it up to an external content source. This isn't new though, as the 3M Mpro150 already does that. Connectivity options include an AV jack, a mini USB port, an SD memory card slot and a RGB port. We're pleased as punch that the R-2 can do wireless transmission, but we have no idea on whether this $360 device comes with an internal battery or runs off a power cord.

The Vivitek H5080 is one of the company’s few home theater projectors. This model features 1200 ANSI lumens, a 25000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Today, a writer from Trusted Reviews got the opportunity to see how good this projector actually is. The writer acknowledge that the projector is a mid range model and isn’t a high-end projector like the H9080FD. The connection panel was a welcomed surprise due to its three HDMI ports. The panel also comes with a VGA, component, s-video, and a composite connection. The projector has an impressive out-of-the-box quality, but if you want more it comes with a wide array of connection options. The only caution that the writer makes about the adjustment features is that sometimes the adjustments overcompensated and actually made the image look worse. However, the most impressive aspect of the display was the contrast ratio. It was able to deliver impressive black levels and detail. The only concerns that the writer had with the H5080 was with its brightness and the running noise. He thought that the projector was a little distracting at times and wasn’t bright enough to show the desired detail. The final verdict was, ‘It feels like almost every projector I see right now progresses the quality of home cinema projection forward in some way. And the H5080 is no exception, delivering black levels and colors in particular that are pretty revelatory on a sub-£3k projector. In fact, the level of achievement it delivers for that money makes the H5080 for me the most all-round attractive Vivitek projector yet - and possibly the model which, more than any other we’ve seen so far, secures Vivitek’s place at the UK AV table.’

Pico projectors are slowly evolving in order to deliver amazing quality. Today a new company called Sapphire Technologies unveiled their brand new Mini Projector 101 device. Measuring only 2.0’ x 0.7’ x 4.6’ (W x H x D) and weighing less than a quarter pound, this projector can easily fit into pocket or briefcase. One of Optoma’s best home theater projectors is the HD20. This model comes with 1700 ANSI lumens, a 4000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Recently, the writers from Audioholics released their review of the HD20. The first thing they talk about is the setup, which was pretty straight forward. The connection panel is simple and well labeled. The best feature though was the price tag. The HD20 is one of the few projectors to retail for under $1000 and have 1080p resolution. The writers were not happy with that the lamp system had a lot of leakage. They saw a lot more than normal. However, they also noticed that the projector’s vents were designed to keep that light from ruining the picture. They also noticed that the remote control’s backlight was annoyingly bright. While having a backlit remote is usually a good thing, the writers noted that they had to let their eyes readjust after looking at it. However even with these problems the writers’ conclusion was, ‘We can’t stress enough that the price of this 1080p projector is just amazing. For under a grand you have the ability to get a great big picture for less than the price of a flatscreen at one quarter the size. While it isn’t the only sub-$1k projector on the block, the cheaper bulb replacement may win out over the quieter Vivitek H1080FD. For us, we’re just happy to see this price point reached. With a white wall, you’re only out the price of the projector and the cost of a DIY shelf. On the ‘high’ end, you could get a motorized screen and a mount for less than a $1700 total investment. With 46″ LED LCDs going for more than that (on sale no less), it isn’t hard to see the value. As projector prices come down, we can’t wait until the public starts to catch on. Then we can all enjoy what we once paid $10 a ticket and $30 in popcorn and drinks PER flick to enjoy - the movie theater experience at home.’

This projector was recently reviewed by the writers from PC Authority. The main focus of the review was the projector’s ability to display 3D content, especially for gaming purposes. It might have been the individual projector, but the writers had a very horrible experience with the projector. Digital Projection is a wide selection of LED projectors, including the M-Vision Cine LED w/ 1.56 – 1.86 lens. Recently, the writers from Ultimate AV Magazine were excited to review this projector with their new 100’ screen. The first aspect that they liked about the Cine is the LED lamp. This lamp can run for up to 60000 hours and uses a fraction of the energy of similar projectors. After the setup, the writers tested the projector’s user interface to see how well it worked. They found that the remote was very useful and powerful enough to control the projector from anywhere in the room. The one thing that annoyed the writers during setup was that they needed an included Allen wrench to adjust the lens shift. Obviously it’s designed to set and leave it, but the setting up part was still a bother. The writers were not terrible impressed with the image quality. Epson’s recently announced BrightLink 450Wi ultra-short throw projector is able to produce an image from 55 to 102-inches in size depending on how far it’s mounted from a wall, and whether it’s running WXGA or XGA resolutions. For example, at a distance of just 18 inches it’s able to project a respectable 60-inch diagonal image, but for compact spaces it can be mounted as close as 2.8 inches, though that will result in a considerably smaller image.

But that’s not the only trick it has up its sleeve. The BrightLink 450Wi is also an interactive projector, and includes a set of digital infrared pens allowing the presenter to doodle or annotate directly on the image being projected. The best feature though is that when the projector becomes available sometime in Spring 2010 it’s expected to sell for under $2,000.

Acer X1261 Projector Review

One of the best Acer home theater projectors available today is the X1261. This projector can display 2500 ANSI lumens, a 3700:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. Today, Tech Tree released their review of this projector. The first thing that they writers mentioned was its 3D capability. The projector is compatible with the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision system in order to display 3D content. Another feature that they writers liked was the remote control. It performed well but they especially liked the fact that it could attach to the projector’s top. The writers got to test the projector with the GeForce system and they were completely blown away. The 120 Hz processor delivered fast moving images and incredible 3D images. The only concern about the image quality was that the brightness could have been more. But if they adjust the projector’s brightness any higher, the image would start to look washed out. The final verdict that the writers made was, ‘The Acer X1261 was a first in the wave of 3D projectors to hit India, as I’m hoping other companies will quickly follow suite. Apart from the slight color banding and fringing issue observed, the Acer X1261 is a good 3D projector at a reasonable price (unless someone wants to prove us wrong) and is recommended. ’

Trusted Reviews is one of the leading review sites for the UK. Recently, the writers got the opportunity to take a look at the Acer H7530D projector. This model features 2000 ANSI lumens, a 40000:1 contrast ratio, and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. This projector is designed for home theaters but the writers feel that this projector might be too fun for serious cinephiles. The connection panel comes with a fair share of connections, including HDMI, RGB, composite, s-video, component, and even stereo ports. However, the writers think that the built-in speakers are not that great and users should look at external speakers instead. One feature that the writers really liked was the onscreen menu. Not only was it helpful and easy to use, but it also provided a lot of image adjustment features, which is something you don’t normally find in budget projectors. The image quality was ok, but definitely not the best that the writers have seen. They noted that the black levels were a lot deeper than other similar projectors. The worst problem that the writers found was the rainbow effect. This is a typical problem for DLP projectors and it is especially bad in the H7530D. The final verdict they made was, ‘In many ways Acer’s H7530D is a pleasant surprise, proving again that the DLP chipsets now available to even £1,000 projectors are of a standard that would have been unimaginable as little as a year ago. 3D, Gaming, Pico Projectors Rocked CES

One of the bright spots of CES 2010 was the projector scene. Home theater, gaming, and and 3D projectors were abundant. So were pico projectors, which are getting brighter, higher resolution, and adding innovative flourishes.

Although the televisions being shown at CES generated most of the 3D buzz, we were pleased to also see the introduction of several 3D-ready projectors, for both home-theater and educational use. The ViewSonic PJD6531w is a 3,000-lumen DLP projector capable of either 2D or 3D operation. It's designed for tabletop use, but can also be mounted on a ceiling for use in a classroom or meeting room. Along with the pico projectors mentioned below, Optoma announced the first two models in its GameTime projector line. Both the GT360 and GT720 are 3D-ready and optimized for use with gaming platforms, the GT360 for the Nintendo Wii and the GT720 for the Wii, Microsoft Xbox, and Sony PlayStation. Optoma plans to launch half a dozen additional 3D-ready projectors in the first six months of 2010.

Epson is the number-one selling projector brand worldwide. Today, the company introduced their latest classroom model, the BrightLink 450Wi. This model features a native WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, 2500 ANSI lumens, and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. The more interesting aspect is that it is designed to mount directly to the wall. This positioning allows the presenter to get close to the board with out having to worry about having the light shine in their eyes. NEC makes a wide array of data projectors. One of their newest models is the NP115. This model is the latest addition to the NP Portable series and features 2500 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio and an SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. The NP115 makes an excellent addition for classrooms because it comes with a diverse connection panel and a 7W speaker, which prevents the need for external speakers. The connection panel includes a RGB, composite, s-video, and several audio ports as well. Another key feature is the 31 dB noise level, which is fairly quiet compared to similar models. This projector is the first to come from Samsung that combines a high brightness output and an LED lamp system. The projector is designed for data projection and business meetings and comes with a variety of connections including RGB, USB, HDMI, and also a USB port. The USB port allows users to leave their laptops at home and use a small flash drive instead. The projector also comes with its own closed captioning feature for video. LG has shown off a new video projector, the LG CF3D, which is the worlds first full HD projector which can deliver 3D video with a single lens.

The LG CF3D features a 2,500 ANSI lumen’s brightness, and a contrast ratio of 7,000:1, as well as TruMotion 120Hz which is designed to deliver smoother and more detailed images.

Other specification include a dual engine, automatic 3D picture calibration, two HDMI 1.3 ports, and a USB connection.

There are no details on pricing or availability as yet, but I suspect this may end up being quite a pricey projector.

Favi RIOLED-Q and RIOLED-V pico projectors launched: the future is bright, wireless

Looks like the world's still got appetite for some more pico projectors, as Favi's releasing a pair some time between late February and early March for prices yet unknown. First is the RIOLED-Q (pictured) which sports a pretty 800 x 600 native resolution at 50 lumens -- supposedly the best brightness in class (like the Optoma PK301), along with built-in SD / MMC card reader, battery, three-watt stereo speaker and an ever-so-handy digital keystone correction. Joining the party is the smaller RIOLED-V which is shy about its display specification, but proudly packs a card reader and WiFi to cater its various web apps for YouTube, Flickr, Picasa, Yahoo News, Weather, Email, Internet Radio and web browser. Too bad it doesn't do phone calls.

'With the adoption of flat panels in schools and businesses, expectations for what's 'bright enough' have changed.' That's the lead-off on the explanation for the new IN2100 and IN3100 series DLP projectors from InFocus, reasoning that we can definitely get behind. Both lines were initially announced back in 2008 and the 2100 line is now getting some subtle tweaks, longer-lasting bulbs, 'dramatically increased' brightness, and more inputs for better institutional performance. The 3100 adds HDMI to the existing outputs, wireless connectivity using Wireless DisplayLink, and PC-free presenting from a USB stick via LitePort. Lower-end models in both series are available now, with the top-shelf entrants dropping later this quarter. IN2100 models start at $599 and IN3100 models begin at a rather spendier $1,499, but hey, it's a business expense, right? Go crazy.

Microvision is a developer of light-scanning technologies for display and imaging products. Today, the company announced that they will be on display this weekend at the CES in Las Vegas. The main product that they will be displaying is their SHOW WX pico projector, which features 10 ANSI lumens, a 5000:1 contrast ratio, and WVGA (848 x 480) resolution. The main feature however is that this projector is the first model to use lasers to project the image. The device has three lasers (red, green, and blue). By combining these three colors, the projector is capable of creating a wide array of colors. Pico projectors are expected to be one of the many hot topics at CES this year. One of the new companies that are displaying this week is Artec and their product is the PH00-1 pico projector. This device features 10 ANSI lumens, a 200:1 contrast ratio, and VGA (640 x 480) resolution. The projector does come with a diverse connection panel, including VGA, composite, and even a USB connection for a more direct connection. The USB port is also how the projector recharges the internal battery. The down side to this model is that it doesn’t come with an internal memory and no SD slot, which means you need either a laptop or some other device with the PH00-1. InFocus is the industry pioneer in digital projection technology. Today, the company announced five new projectors for their IN2100 and IN3100 series. Both series are designed for boardrooms and classrooms and can also make excellent portable devices. ‘With the adoption of flat panels in schools and businesses, expectations for what’s ‘bright enough’ have changed,’ said Robert Detwiler, product manager, InFocus. ‘For the IN2100 and IN3100 series, we have dramatically increased brightness and coupled it with the performance characteristics of some of our best-selling projectors for brilliant, large-scale projection at affordable price points.’

The new additions to the IN2100 series include the IN2112, IN2114, and IN2116. All of these models feature the same 3000 ANSI lumens and 2100:1 contrast ratio. The major difference between these three is that they come with SVGA (800 x 600), XGA (1024 x 768), and WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution, respectively. These models also share the same connection panel, which includes dual RGB ports, an s-video, composite, and a few audio ports. All three even come with a USB port for easy network capabilities. The IN2112 and IN2114 are already available, but the IN2116 will be released later in this quarter.

The IN3100 series only has two new models, the IN3114 and the IN3116. Both projectors share a 2100:1 contrast ratio and 3500 ANSI lumens. The IN3114 has a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution, while the IN3116 has a WXGA (1280 x 800) resolution. The connection panel is almost the same as the IN2100 series, but the IN3100 models also include a HDMI port. The IN3114 is available now and the IN3116 will be released soon.

HP Announces New Companion Projector Coming Soon

HP has been out of the projector market for a while now, but today at CES they announced that they will be releasing their first pico projector soon. What has been come to be known as the Companion, this projector is almost too powerful to be a pico projector. The Companion displays SVGA (858 x 600) resolution, an 800:1 contrast ratio, and an impressive 100 ANSI lumens. The reason why only 100 lumens are amazing is because this device is not much bigger than a pack of playing cards. The only connection is a VGA port that users can use to display presentations on to a screen instantly. Unfortunately, the major downside with this projector is that it requires a second device in order to display images, which gives creditability to its name. HP plans to release the Companion on January 15th right after CES. It will be priced at $499.

Barco is excited about this model because they are claiming that the RLM-W6 is the world’s first 3-chip DLP projector that features WUXGA resolution and it will retail for the same price as a normal single-chip DLP projector. However, because Barco doesn’t release any price information, it’s difficult to accept or deny that claim. The RLM-W6 is designed for large venues but can also be used for boardrooms, lobbies and even auditoriums. ‘We like to refer to our RLM-W6 as a ‘three for one’-system,’ comments Carl Rijsbrack, Director Product and Solutions Management at Barco, ‘For the price of a single-chip DLP™ system, you get a three-chip DLP™ projector with a better image quality and a very low noise level. A few months ago, ViewSonic released their PJD2121 projector. This model features 400 ANSI lumens, an 1800:1 contrast ratio, and SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. Recently, the writers from Crunch Gear had the opportunity to review this small projector. One of the first things they notice is that this projector is designed for business use. The PJD2121 is light, portable, doesn’t come with any HD features, and is simple enough for a laptop or DVD player. The writers found that the display was clear and crisp. However, in order to see all the detail they had to keep the lights relatively low. They also liked the short throw lens, which allows a user to project a big display when they are close to the screen. One of the major drawback about the PJD2121 is that it doesn’t have internal speakers. This means that if the user has any audio they wish to play, they have to bring their own. One of the latest home theater projectors to come from BenQ is the W600. This model features 2600 ANSI lumens, a 3000:1 contrast ratio, and HD (1280 x 720) resolution. Recently, a writer from Trusted Reviews got to review this projector. The writer compared the projector to another BenQ model that he reviewed earlier, the W1000. This model only features 2000 ANSI lumens, but has a better HD (1920 x 1080) resolution and the same 3000:1 contrast ratio. Both projectors also share the same appealing connection panel that includes dual HDMI ports, a composite, mini USB, component, s-video, and RGB. One thing that the writers were put off on was the lack of screen adjustment features. Usually budget projectors try to be flexible and offer features like vertical and horizontal lens shift, keystone adjustment, and several others. The W600 doesn’t have any of these features. However, the writer did find out that for what the projector lacked, it made up for in other features like picture quality settings, the writers were able to tinker with the image, which is something they normally don’t get to do with budget projectors. The major problem that the writers faced was the DLP rainbow effect. This effect happens when the colors start to separate and display what looks like a rainbow. While some people can’t see the effects, many people are sensitive enough to see them. The final verdict that the writer made was, ‘When it’s at its best, the W600’s pictures, while low on subtlety, can actually look quite spectacular. The Favela level on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the daytime battle sequences of the Braveheart Blu-ray, the daytime scenes in the Bahamas in Casino Royale, any number of bright, animated scenes… All these and more look really eye-catching, and as such are much more satisfying than you’ve any right to expect for £500. However, there’s a price to pay for these good bits. For anything containing a mix of bright and dark material invariably falls prey to the rainbow effect, sometimes to an extent that really distracts from what you’re watching. And I’m saying this as a person who’s by no means as prone to seeing the rainbow effect as some other people I’ve known over the years.’

Short throw projectors are great little devices. They let you get a much larger image in a room that lacks the size for traditional projectors. The short throw lenses also allow the projectors to be placed in front of the audience.

Being in front of the audience means that the presenter doesn’t have bright light in their eyes and people can get up without blocking the image. When it comes to projectors, the brand name NEC holds plenty of promise, where they have recently announced a couple more professional installation projectors in the form of the NP2200 and NP1200 which were specially designed to meet demanding integration projects. Part of the powerful NP Installation Series, both models will definitely carve a happy smile on the faces of folks who require bright light output for large screens without having to break the bank. We shall take a look at both models in greater detail right after the jump.

First off, the NP2200 - this model is capable of displaying a high level of brightness at 4,200 ANSI lumens, followed by the NP1200 which has a lower output of 3700 lumens. Either way, both models are very bright in their own right, making them the perfect choice for corporate and higher education environments. NEC NP215 Projector Review

One of the latest projectors to be released by NEC is the NP215, which features 2500 ANSI lumens, a 2000:1 contrast ratio, and a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. Recently, the writers from V3 got the opportunity to see the NP215 and release their review. The first thing they realize when they take the projector from the box is that it has some weight to it. The NP215 only weights 5.5 lbs, which isn’t terribly heavy, but it is heavy enough to prevent this projector from being a true mobile projector. The writers were happy with the connection panel, but the projector could have included more with the network features. The display was a positive experience with the exception of a slight rainbow effect that was only visible during high-contrast scenes. The writer concluded by stating, ‘Calling it a mobile projector is perhaps pushing it a bit, at a weight of 2.5kg, but the NP215 performs reasonably well. However, although the ability to control multiple units via the included software is a bonus, it’s a shame NEC didn’t make more of the projector’s built-in network connection.’

Projectiondesign F35 is world’s first 2560 x 1600 projector

I spend lots of time in front of the computer so years ago I purchased a massive 30-inch Dell monitor. This thing lets me get several pages up side by side and rocks for high resolution gaming at 2560 x 1600. The 30-inch LCDs are traditionally the only display devices that hit a resolution that high. Projectiondesign has unveiled a new projector called the F35 that joins the 2560 x 1600 club.

The new projector uses the Texas Instruments WQXGA DLP chip and brightness is rated at 6500 lumens. The contrast ratio for the projector is 8000:1 and it supports 720p HD resolutions as well as 1080i. Inputs include DVI-D, dual HDMI 1.3, dual VGA, and component.

The projector measures 376 x 510 x 223mm and weighs 12.6kg. The projector is capable of throwing an image of up to 65 feet wide. That is one seriously big picture. The F35 is set to hit market in the second half of 2010 and will be expensive I am sure.

Classrooms everywhere are quickly changing to integrate the latest technology. A new company called ONfinity has recently announced a new projector that is perfect for the classroom, the CM2 MAX. This model has limited specifications, but it can project up to a 150’ diagonal display and features a native XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. This projector is designed to be portable and weighs less than a pound. The main feature about the projector is the included E-Pen, which allows the user to interact with the screen with out having to go to their computer all the time. The E-Pen can be detected by the projector and tells the software where it is in relation to the display. The user can then control the screen using the pen just like a mouse control. By tapping on the screen, the writer can open and close programs and even move objects on the display. There is also a smaller writing E-Pen included that allows the user to draw or write onto the screen as well. The Epson EH-TW2900 projector is one of the newer home theater projectors to come from Epson. This model features an 18000:1 contrast ratio, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and 1600 ANSI lumens. Today, the writers from Epson released their review of this device. The first thing they notice is that this projector has a fairly big footprint, which could deter anyone who was looking for a projector they could take with them on trips. The writers were very happy to all the helpful image adjustment features in the menu. They were equally happy to see how easy it was to find them and control them. The main attraction to this projector is the image. Because the TW2900 is a 3LCD display, there was no rainbow effect to worry about, which was a big difference. The display was able to give natural color tones with out looking too faded or to cartoonish. However, even with a colorful display, the image was not able to deliver the HD sharpness that other projectors can provide. The contrast was also a concern for the writers. When compared to DLP projectors, the TW2900’s black levels were faded and could not show the detail as well. The final verdict that was made about the TW2900 was, ‘I somehow contrived to finish the main review on what felt like something of a downer. But this really isn’t a fair reflection of the Epson TW2900 overall. For while it might not have the brassy casual appeal of Optoma and BenQ’s recent mega-cheap DLP models, it certainly does have the setup flexibility (especially the image shifting), features and refinement to appeal to a more serious movie-loving audience. Which is no mean feat with such an affordable model. Plus, of course, if you’ve been looking at the Optoma and/or BenQ models and found that you’re particularly susceptible to seeing the DLP rainbow effect, the simple artefact-free nature of the TW2900’s pictures will feel like the home projection equivalent of taking a Nurofen.’
